This could/should be good....
Wow. Toug .
70’s Terrance Stansbury
Purnell Ayers is best player to ever put on basketball shoes in DE.. He got 2 team mates better than the list you guys got..lol
Even though, I am now a Salesianum fan, the best all around DE HS player I have ever seen was Dexter Boney. He played for Brandywine, 3 times first team all state & graduated in like '89. He went on to Hagerstown and the UNLV.
70’s Terrance Stansbury This list right here.. My Cape team from 75/76 would beat Donte and them boys by 25 or better.. Lol
How about Delino Deshields from Seaford? Hard to top him.
....the greatest all around DE HS Athlete in history...Ist Team all state in 3 sports....
Hands down Delino Deshields. Best athlete ever to play in DE.
This list right here.. My Cape team from 75/76 would beat Donte and them boys by 25 or better.. Lol Yes, the entire downstate boys and girls are WAY better than upstate. Lol, not! Look at as you say “strictly by the numbers” in over 50 years of the state tournament downstate has ONLY won 8 state titles on the boys side and on the
girls side downstate is even worse ONLY winning 2 state titles. So if we are only looking at “the numbers” that means downstate has only won 10% of the overall state titles. Sad, just like you and your continual reference of your high school team at Cape from 40 years ago. After 40 years and you are talking all this trash. Time to grow up! You need some help. I’ve done wasted way to much time with your BS. LOL Last edited: Mar 24, 2020

Yes, the entire downstate boys and girls are WAY better than upstate. Look at the Lol... Nice try..
That Cape team was awesome. Ayers, John Bishop, Jimmy Allen, Ronson Burton, Carlton Allen, and the great Ralph Baird coaching them. That starting 5 had 3 players in Delaware Basketball HOF and the best coach ever Mr. Baird in HOF.. Lol.. They can hate all they want to ..lol
How is all of the individual attention span stuff going on here? How about staying on topic. This is about players not teams.
If we are talking just individual talent I think Bones has to be considered, AJ English, Ayers, Stansbury and Delino. Charles Rayne, Tony Tucker, Booney , Bishop and Profit
Delino Deshields was the real deal. I was a fan of Dexter Boney as well.
If Dexter had a better supporting cast, he may have been able to land that state title.
Has to be Elena. No one else was the top player in the country, or anywhere near it.9
If Dexter had a better supporting cast, he may have been able to land that state title. I think you might forget some of the great Howard teams of the early 70"s. One of the great basketball games H.S. games I witnessed as the 1973 semi-final Championship overtime game between undefeated Howard and Sallies. Kenny Hynson was unstoppable that night.

One of the great basketball games H.S. games I witnessed as the 1973 semi-final Championship overtime game between undefeated Howard and Sallies. Kenny Hynson was unstoppable that night. That '73 Howard team was the first in the state tournament era to run
the table, beating Cape to that distinction by 2 years. Kenny Hynson was Howard's first multiple time all-state selection, and his teammates (Mike Miller, Eric Fuller, David Roane) were no slouches either.
Taking it way back Albert Horne.... Bridgeville High school or Deshields....I like Donte and Bones too
Walter was a postgraduate player and Sanford wasn't allowed to play in the tournament at that time as they were not a full DIAA member. He was given a spot on the all state team.
some extremely talented players not mentioned:
Taking it way back Albert Horne.... Bridgeville High school or Deshields....I like Donte and Bones too Albert Horne was a great player. Saw him personally lead Bridgeville over Seaford in the ‘68 state tourney.
Lenny Brown and Gary Lumpkin.. That full court press was hell.. That William Penn team was real.. Won Slam Dunk Power bracket .. When it was real tourney.. Lol
Lenny Brown and Gary Lumpkin.. That full court press was hell.. That William Penn team was real.. Won Slam Dunk Power bracket .. When it was real tourney.. Lol Along w/ Tail Davis they was real tough. I think they beat CR/Laron Profit in the State Championship that year.
Too short to play have the next
level. Should probably go to med school.
what are you saying Bummy, he Pee Wee?
If we are going to mention Brians then we have to mention Brian Polk first. If this thread is solely based on high school performance in DE & what I have seen with my own eyes then he is very high up there on my list. I don’t know how many points he scored, but I would think he is close to the top in career points in DE too. I’m surprised his name hadn’t came
up in this thread yet.
….Brian Polk was a helluva HS player. I think he did get outplayed by Carlos Hawkins in '00 when the played against each other in the tournament. (My memory is failing me but I think the game was at Polytech). Howard beat Sussex Tech in Tournament and Carlos Hawkins outplayed Polk. Last edited: Apr 1, 2020

Yes correct, Carlos Hawkins did outplay Polk in the quarterfinals in 2000 at Polytech & I was in attendance. Polk didn’t play bad finished w/ 35 & Hawkins had 44 w/ a number of crazy dunks, but Polk had the better career as a DE player overall...can’t
judge a career on one head-to head matchup. I believe Polk even went on to win 6th Man of the Year in the A-10 his freshman year at Temple. FYI...Hawkins was VERY good himself. Last edited: Apr 1, 2020

I concur completely that Brian Polk had a Top 10 DE HS Boy Basketball career. I brought up that one game because as those who were there will attest it was unforgettable. Who is the best HS basketball player of all time?1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor) — Power Memorial Panthers (New York) And then, there was one Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, who would become a prominent figure in basketball history as the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He's the best player on arguably the greatest team in high school basketball history.
