A Full List Of The GOT Houses That You Could Have Gotten:

Here are the options for our Game of Thrones house quiz. We tried our best to focus on the most popular and important houses in the entire series. We have also provided some additional details about each house, including their sigil and official seat.

House Stark

“Winter is Coming”

The Stark’s are one of the great houses in the series. The official seat of their house is in Winterfell and they rule the North. Their sigil is a grey direwolf on a white crest. The house is known for their honor and their loyalty. They are also known for their harsh climate and winters (hence “Winter Is Coming”).

There is no doubt that House Stark is one of the most popular from the entire series. A large chunk of the books and television show focuses on Ned Stark, his wife Catelyn, and their children: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon, and Jon Snow. All of the Stark’s have an interesting journey that the series covers in great detail.

House Arryn

“As High as Honor”

The Arryn’s are one of the smallest of the great houses. The official seat of their house is the Eyrie and they have ruled the Vale of Arryn for around a millennium. In the first book, George R.R Martin described the Eyrie as somewhere that is unable to be captured. Their sigil is a white moon and falcon on a blue crest.

The series begins after Lord Jon Arryn’s death, which happened under sketchy circumstances. Jon’s death leaves his widow, Lysa, and their son Robin Arryn, to rule the Vale. The Arryn’s would go on to serve as minor characters for the rest of the series.

House Baratheon

“Ours is the Fury”

The Baratheon’s are one of the major houses of the series. The official seat of the house is Storm’s End and they rule over the Stormlands. Their sigil is a black stag that is on a golden crest. House Baratheon is the youngest out of all the Great Houses of Westeros. Members of the house are known for their tempers and are down to settle their differences on the battlefield.

The series starts off with King Robert Baratheon as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. This came after he led a rebellion against the Targaryen dynasty. Robert led the Seven Kingdoms alongside his wife, Cersei Lannister. They had three children together (Joffrey, Tommen, and Myrcella), which we later found out were not Robert’s. Robert also has two brothers, Stannis and Renly who try to claim the throne for themselves after the death of Robert. The entire Baratheon storyline serves as a major plotline for most of the series.

House Greyjoy

“We Do Not Sow”

The Greyjoy’s are another of the smallest of the great houses. The official seat of the house is in Pike and they rule over the Iron Islands. Their sigil is a golden Kraken that is on a black crest. Even though their official motto is “We Do Not Sow”, they also live by the words: “What Is Dead May Never Die”. Members of the house prefer to pay the “iron price” by seizing things by force, instead of using money.

The first season begins by introducing us to Theon Greyjoy, who serves as a ward to Lord Eddard Stark. This came after the Greyjoy Rebellion failed and Theon’s father, Balon, bent the knee to King Robert Baratheon. Theon serves as a major character throughout the series.

House Lannister

“A Lannister always pays his debts”

The Lannister’s are one of the most powerful houses in the series. The official seat of their house is in Casterly Rock and they rule over the Westerlands. Their sigil is a golden lion that is on a crimson crest. House Lannister is the richest family in Westeros due to the gold mines that are located on their lands. As a result, their motto is “a Lannister always pays his debts” which represents them using money to solve their problems.

The series begins with the secret incestuous relationship between Jaime and Cersei being revealed. Cersei is the wife of King Robert and Jaime serves as a member of Robert’s Kingsguard. We are also introduced to their little brother, Tyrion, who goes on to play a major role in the series. A solid chunk of the series focuses on Tywin, Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion Lannister.

House Martell

“Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken”

The Martell’s are one of the minor houses in the series. The official seat of their house is in Sunspear and they rule over Dorne. Their sigil is a gold spear piercing a red sun on an orange crest. The house doesn’t follow traditional gender norms and any first-born can ascend to the throne of Dorne.

Other than some mentions, we are really introduced to House Martell when Prince Oberyn arrives in King’s Landing to attend the royal wedding. Although he was only with us for a short time, Oberyn went on to become one of the most popular characters from the series. After his death, House Martell goes on to play a moderate role for the rest of the series.

House Targaryen

“Fire and Blood”

The Targaryen’s are one of the main houses of the series. The house ruled over the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros for many years before being forced into exile. Their sigil is a red three-headed dragon breathing flames that is on a black crest.

House Targaryen is best known for its use of Dragons and is one of the most popular houses in the entire series. A solid chunk of the series focuses on Daenarys Targaryan and her journey to reclaim Westeros for her family. We are first introduced to Daenarys as a scared little girl who does whatever her brother, Viserys, tells her to do. Throughout the series we see her grow into the ‘Mother Of Dragons’, who is a badass Woman.

House Tully

“Family, Duty, Honor”

The Tully’s are one of the minor houses in the series. The official seat of their house is Riverrun, where they ruled over the Riverlands for many years. Their sigil is a silver trout on a striped crest of blue and red. They are a house that values loyalty and family over everything else.

We find out a lot about the Tully family through Catelyn Stark, who was Lord Hoster Tully’s daughter. The Tully’s serve as a minor house for the entirety of the series.

House Tyrell

“Growing Strong”

The Tyrell’s are one of the moderate houses from the series. The official seat of their house is Highgarden, where they ruled over The Reach for many years. Their sigil is a golden rose on a green crest. Don’t be fooled by their beautiful appearances, House Tyrell is known to be cunning and full of ambition. They are also one of the wealthiest houses in Westeros, behind only the Lannister’s.

We are first introduced to the house from Loras Tyrell, who is a knight and also the secret lover of Renly Baratheon. We are later introduced to Loras’ sister, Margaery Tyrell, who goes on to play a big role in the series.

Some More Important Great Houses

There were not options on our quiz but they still play a role in the series in some form.

  • House Frey plays a big role in the series and helped orchestrate the infamous ‘Red Wedding’. They are led by Walder Frey, who had a ton of children.
  • House Bolton plays a big role in the series, mostly as the villains. Roose Bolton and Ramsay Bolton are the two biggest names worth mentioning.
  • House Mormont plays a big role in the series. Jorah, Jeor, and Lyanna are the names worth mentioning.
  • House Reed plays a decent role in the series. Howland, Meera, and Jojen are names that both book readers and tv show watchers will recognize.
  • House Tarly plays a sizable role in the series. That is mostly because of Samwell Tarly, who serves as the best friend of Jon Snow.
  • There are also the wildlings, which you could technically count as a House if you wanted. Names that you know are Tormund, Mance Rayder, and Ygritte, who is the girlfriend of Jon Snow.
