Battle Game in 5 Seconds Episode 12 Overview

Did the battle game in 5 seconds End?

Battle Game in 5 Seconds is a Death Game style anime produced by Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions in collaboration with Studio A-CAT. Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions is known for producing several well-known anime series of the past, such as Monster and Pokemon, to name a few. On the other hand, Studio A-CAT is mostly an unproven commodity. The series is based upon a web manga written by Saizou Harawata.

The series is known by multiple names, some of them being- Battle in 5 Seconds After Meeting, Dea5, and Deatte 5-byou de Battle in original Japanese. If you want to catch up on our previous reviews of the series, you can do so by clicking here. This episode is thus also known as Deatte 5-byou de Battle Episode 12.

Did the battle game in 5 seconds End?

Well, that was certainly an ending. Not a good one, by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly an ending. I had my doubts about the direction in which this was going ever since Akira single-handedly took down the entire Team Red by his own hands, other than the one guy Kumagiri killed. Even the lieutenant Rin killed can be attributed to Akira since he is the one who made her the offer.

In the last episode, Akira killed Kuroiru, Team Red’s “Mastermind”. I’ve put that in quotations since he isn’t much of a mind, let alone a mastermind. Even after knowing Akira’s ability wasn’t the cannon, he wasn’t able to put up much of a fight. His end was written in the stars as soon as his and Ichi’s backstory got revealed because there isn’t a bigger giveaway that you’re going to die in an anime than your backstory being shown.

Did the battle game in 5 seconds End?

I have never liked this trope of all villains getting a sob story. Demon Slayer has consistently been the worst offender of this, giving context to villains after they’ve already died in some cases, but Battle Game in 5 Seconds final episode isn’t any better. Ichi and Kuroiru are despicable human beings, and their wanting to build a kingdom doesn’t change that. They were portrayed to be strong characters, up until Akira showed up, of course.

After we finished this particular arc, Akira was greeted by a familiar face, who asked Akira to repay debts that Akira never owed him. There was also a slight hint that his power was something very similar to Akira’s, and then it was all over. The way Battle Game in 5 Seconds Episode 12 ended left a lot to be desired, especially since they made it look like a dream sequence for a short while. You don’t need to scare me more by showing me that what I watched was even more pointless when I’m already regretting it.

Did the battle game in 5 seconds End?

We could put a lot of blame upon the showrunners on how they handled the anime as, by all accounts, the manga did all of this a lot more justice than was shown in the anime. It’s not like there is ever going to be a Battle Game in 5 Seconds Season 2, so you might as well check out the manga while you’re at it. It probably has better animation than the anime, as well. Speaking of animation-

What in the ever-loving hell is Ichi’s 3D model? Why does he look like that? Why is he the only character that looks like an underpaid intern drew him in 10 minutes during a lunch break? Why can’t he move and speak properly? Who decided that this was a good idea? Whoever did should be put in the unemployment line as soon as possible. I don’t know why I never spoke up about it before, but no time’s the wrong time to call out this insanity.

Apart from that hot and steaming pile of garbage, the rest of Battle Game in 5 Seconds Episode 12 was decent in its art and surprisingly good with its music. I came to like the OST by the end quite a bit, and the opening and ending themes are also swell. At least some parts of the show work as intended. A-CAT should be proud.

Verdict

With Battle Game in 5 Seconds Episode 12, the death game anime coughed and spluttered to a grinding halt. While not entirely worthless, it was an affair made almost unwatchable by its shoddy animation and weird storyline decisions. Click here to read the full review of the season!
