Really did a good job tilling and cultivating our small garden. Arrived missing a handle (i believe due to the carrier) and I was shipped a new part in no time flat. It's extremely easy to use and, as I said before does a really good job.

We got this for a garden in hard soil. We added chunky black dirt and manure. Our grandsons were able to till up and cultivate the 20 x 40 garden area in an hour. The tiller has been great. Starts right up. Although hard to maneuver when you hit hard ground it will break it up. Assembly was difficult but once together it started immediately. We are happy with it so far. Would buy again.

Lighter than most still does a great job. Only negative is that you have to completely remove drag stick to change depth or move unit to another location rather than just tilt it up.

I normally do not write product reviews but this tiller is so good I was compelled to share my thoughts. I religously read user reviews before I buy something and it appears all of the objections most people had with this tiller were addressed by the manufacturer. First of all it was very easy to assemble and there were no parts missing. Yes, the clutch lever should be on the bottom, not the top but that was an easy fix. I had originally opted for the larger horsepower Kohler model but it appeared it would not be available for a long period of time. I settled for the 99cc Viper engine and find it has plenty of power. It chewed through my compacted Colorado clay garden soil with little effort. it is also balanced very well so when it hit a hard spot and started to buck a little I found that if you push down on the handle bars it stops and continues to chew though. Also if you lift up on the handle bars slightly in softer soil it will pull itself through. I have raised beds and it was very easy to manuver at the ends. Overall, it did a great job and was a dream to use. I normally rent a 16hp rear tine tiller but I put in raised beds this year so that large unit was not going to work. I wanted to purchase something that woud do the job but easy to operate and affordable. This was money well spent and I recommend it highly.

Assembly - a little fiddly, but not overly, can be done with one person easily. Use a wrench set, no power tools if you are not familiar with setting torsion, you'll crush the handles!

Amazing, great value for Money. We had a lot of roots in a newly cleared area for a vegetable patch. It's got plenty of power - yes it nearly ripped my arms from my body as it tore the roots out of the ground, and yes as expected some of them did get wrapped around the tines. However, what would've taken a day to prepare a 20ft by 80ft hard packed grassed area was completed in a couple of hours over 2 days (rest break / allowed some moisture to sink in) - this has become a corn patch. As for our existing vegetable garden, it dug down deep and mixed in last years compost, decomposed roots, chicken poop etc.. very nicely. Typically a days work to turn and dig in was a couple of hours, over two days, after watering a little and allowing it to settle.

The ground is so light and fluffy, rich in nutrients ( pitch black ) the vegetables and very happy and weeding is a breeze. No longer digging out roots for packed dirt!

Removed the outer two rotors for 'weeding' between rows, had to back-off the gas as to not not 'eat everything' - very quick exercise, worked wonders so not as much round-up needed this year.

HINT: when starting off a fresh area, let the Tiller DIG-DOWN a few in inches by holding it in place, this will lighten the stress on your arms with it running away on hard packed dirt. Let it move along at it's own pace, WARNING hold tight if there are roots it will bounce and throw dirt, keep everyone far away. NOTE: keep clogged grass and roots off the rotors, you can tell if its blocking up by listening to the engine working harder, turn-off, tip it back and pull out anything that is wrapped around anything (look close to where the rotors are connected together)

Decent tiller. Easy to assemble. I like the design and build. Works pretty well. I have soft soil and works great. However, I think the 99cc engine is a little underpowered for the size. If you have hard soil, you may find it tougher to dig and want the weight and power of a heavier engine. I did have a problem starting it. I called the company and they were quick and friendly to respond, but wanted me to take it to a dealer to get it fixed. In the spring, that's impossible with waiting lists and hauling it to a dealer, so I adjusted it myself. Not sure if others will know how or not if they have that issue, but I doubt its common. Just providing my honest review.

Cultivation
Works well
Easy start
I read other reviews, blogs, YouTube etc
Don’t run at full throttle but at/below 3600 RPM
and it won’t overheat and shut down
Ironic the throttle came set in that position
Got wet and the muffler started to rust
Rust remover/inhibitor treats it = solved
Automatically shuts down if jammed with a large rock, went through and busted up buried old bricks
Perfect size for residential use: small ones are useless and big ones are too much machine in some places
Any machine will break under enough stress or if you beat on it hard enough

What engine is in earthquake Tiller?

The machine has a Viper® 99cc four-cycle (no oil + gas mixture) engine that runs on 87+ octane unleaded ethanol-free gasoline (or an ethanol blend if an ethanol fuel stabilizer is added) and 10W30 engine oil (included) The gas tank holds a little more than a half gallon of fuel.

Who makes 99cc Viper engine?

Ardisam Inc.. Versa™ Tiller Cultivator with 99cc Viper® Engine.

Is Earthquake a good brand of Tiller?

Earthquake tillers are generally very reliable and produce excellent results for furrowing your garden. While this one doesn't cut as deep and wide as some of its rivals, it makes tilling very easy and the fact that it's gas powered does increase the range.

Whats the difference between a tiller and cultivator?

What is a Cultivator? The purpose of a lawn tiller is to break up hard and compact soil, whereas a garden cultivator like the Husqvarna T300RH petrol cultivator serves to mix up soil that is already loose and stir in compost or fertiliser so that it is ready for planting.
