Friday the 13th Game Jason skins

Illfonic heard your cries about how broken parts of Friday the 13th: The Game are and has decided to rectify that as best it can. Below is a snippet from a forum thread in which the developers have improved Jason to be much more menacing.

On top of that, we have a new trailer for new content coming to the game, which includes a Jason V skin and a map for the Pinehurst Youth Development Center, which is from Friday The 13th: A New Beginning (AKA: Friday The 13th: Part V). Both of these are totally free DLC for the game, all you need to do is own the game and you can add them in.

We've seen your reports; our Jason characters aren't scary. We've seen the videos of counselors running circles around Jason and smacking him upside the head, repeatedly, while he quietly resigns himself to his fate. We've even seen videos of Jason being forced to run away while being chased by 4 Chads with baseball bats.

It would have been great to receive Friday the 13th: The Game's version of Uber Jason (from Jason X). Unfortunately, with servers closed and further development halted, it looks like fans will just have the 10 current Jasons available.

Most take the exact appearance of the character in a given movie. Every Jason from Friday the 13th Part II to Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday is included with a few surprises tossed in. One of them even comes from a man who has contributed to the franchise from the very beginning.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Retro Jason

Retro Jason Friday the 13th The Game

Retro Jason has the presence of a Scooby-Doo villain waiting to take off their mask and curse the kids for spoiling their gambit. It's not an intimidating look. Retro Jason also brings nothing new to the table, ability-wise. He's just a redesigned skin for the Friday the 13th Part III Jason, which is typically seen as the character's most recognizable and iconic appearance.

The skin is supposed to be in reference to the 1989 NES video game, but it's far more indicative of an intimidating character covered in cheap, blue spray paint.

Part VI

Part 6 Jason in Friday the 13th The Game

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives may have been a terrific subversion of formula, but its Jason was lacking. The same goes for Part VI Jason in Friday the 13th: The Game. A chief complaint about many of these Jasons is their speed (or utter lack thereof).

Part VI Jason is the slowest. If he manages to get into the cabin with his weak spear (the worst weapon of the game), the counselor can just jump out of the window and hightail it. Any other Jason is a better choice for those who actually want to level up.

Part V

Part V Jason in Friday the 13th the Game

Paramedic Roy Burns taking over the Jason mantle in the underrated Friday the 13th: Part V didn't sit well with many fans. Furthermore, the character's slender appearance made him a far less intimidating presence than the version in Part III and The Final Chapter.

That frail appearance carries over to the game, resulting in a Jason that's fairly easy to defeat. He's also weak; should he hold up a counselor it's 50-50 whether they'll kick him away. Part V Jason's only real perk is his ability to run, which can prove helpful.

Part IX

Jason Goes to Hell Jason in Friday the 13th the game

On top of being a movie-accurate, horrifying representation of Jason Voorhees, Part IX Jason also sports one of Friday The 13th's best Jason kills.

With that being said, Part IX Jason can't run. He also takes fewer blows to bring down. Regardless, this Jason can Shift across the map pretty much at will considering it recharges so quickly. Shift is one of the best abilities in the game (it's essentially an in-game explanation for how Jason can suddenly pop up out of nowhere) and it's arguably the most effective with this incarnation.

Part VII

Part 7 Jason Friday the 13th The Game

As one of the best Jason designs, it was inevitable that Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood's zombified, decrepit version of the character would end up in the game. Like in the movie, Part VII Jason is a force of nature (more than usual).

However, he also can't run, which is the main detriment to many of these variations on the iconic killer. With that being said, when he does manage to get his hands on a counselor, they're pretty much done.

Savini Jason

Savini Jason in Friday the 13th the Game

Savini Jason is a creation by legendary makeup artist Tom Savini (who did the effects for both Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter). It's a great consolation prize in lieu of Uber Jason, who will never see the light of day due to the legal issues surrounding Friday the 13th: The Game (and the franchise as a whole).

The appeal to Savini Jason is his appearance over any particular specialty. He just looks cool, as if he's clawed his way out of Hell (which was Savini's intention). His shifting abilities are top-notch and he can walk through just about any door, but Savini Jason is also a very slow walker. However, if he looks so intimidating walking that way, let him.

Part III

Jason from Friday the 13th the Game

When Jason is hunting down Friday the 13th: The Game's best counselors, it's fun to go with a personal favorite appearance. For many Friday the 13th fans, this would be the character's hulking physicality in Part III, also known as the one where Jason got his mask.

Jason oozed evil and death in Part III, and his brawn is equally terrifying in the game. He also can run, so combing over Camp Crystal Lake becomes a simple task instead of a boring chore.

Part VIII

Jason emerging from the water in friday the 13th the game

From Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan comes this incarnation with his yellow, discolored mask.

He can't run, but he's incredibly strong. His fire ax is one of the more wieldable and formidable weapons in the game, making Part VIII Jason a solid choice for new and seasoned players alike. What really sells Jason Takes Manhattan's variation on the character, though, is his swimming ability. In the water, this Jason is a lightning bolt.

Part II

Potato Sack Jason in Friday the 13th the Game

It wouldn't be an unpopular opinion about Friday the 13th to say that the hockey mask is better than the potato sack. Even still, sack-head Jason is scary in his own right. If playing as a counselor, he's one of the scarier versions to have pop around a corner.

As a playable character, Part II Jason is top-notch. Again, this version can run. He also has access to more traps (ostensibly from his cabin containing the head of Pamela Voorhees). The only real drawback to Part II Jason is his speed while in the water. However, getting in the water is a rarity if not chosen.

Part IV

The Final Chapter Jason in Friday the 13th The Game

It's close, but the game's version of Jason from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is its best. The pig splitter is a unique-kill magnet, and it's very easy to wield (especially in comparison to something like Part VI Jason's spear).

What puts Part IV Jason on top of the list is his overall proficiency. He can run, and for an extended duration. He also has a rock-solid weapon strength as well as enough brawn to bash through a door. Along with Part III, this is the Jason to use if just now getting into the game.

How many Jason Skins are there?

There are 6 Jasons to choose from, each inspired by a movie within the Friday the 13th franchise.

How much is Savini Jason?

Players can buy the outfit outright for around $500, while several auctions have already exceeded bids of $100 with days left to go before their conclusion. It's worth remembering that this is a purely cosmetic skin, that doesn't offer any gameplay advantages.

Is Savini Jason the best Jason?

Overall, Savini Jason is a powerful antagonist and one of the better Jasons to use in the game. However, with that said, his playstyle is not the easiest to master. In fact, one could argue that his greatest weakness, is being in limited quantity, creating a niche playerbase as a result.
