Gaggia Classic Pro vs Rancilio Silvia Reddit

Gaggia Classic Pro vs Rancilio Silvia Reddit

Coming from a couple of years with the Breville Barista express, thinking about swapping out for a Gaggia Classic Pro or Rancilio Silvia. Benefits of either or vs each other and the Breville? Anything else in the range I should consider? I have enjoyed the Breville, but feel like it has been a great machine to learn on and looking at a machine with a boiler for a little better steaming, and perhaps higher ceiling on shot consistency. Thanks!

Neither of those is a significant upgrade over the barista express

Not worth it imo. They don't really offer anything more.

Your best bet is just to get a better grinder for now.

What would you recommend for the next viable upgrade? Rancilio with built in PID?

The Gaggia will be the most affordable option to take you to the next step. You can easily find them on ebay for 250 dollars or less. in regards to good steam steam, the gaggia will make you work for it. You can always replace the wand with the rancilio wand, but the smaller boiler can only do so much. If you really want superior steam the rancilio is known for its power. Its also much more expensive, but if you can find a good price on one then its a great option.

So a new gaggia classic pro for 450 or a manufacturer defect (scratch) rancilio for 550?

Do you think the temperature issues with a stock Silvia would be major for someone getting started with espresso?

Smaller boiler vs a larger boiler (time to warm up and steam milk). Whole latte love has a YouTube vid to compare the two.

Thanks I’ll check it out. Warm up time would be important for me, hoping for something 5 min or less, and don’t necessarily need to make back to back drinks. Make milk based drinks 1/2 the time

Hi, guys!

I'm new to the entire espresso world and I'm interested in buying my first machine. I have watched every single Gaggia Classic Pro and Rancilio Silvia (V6) video out there and I still can't decide which one to go with so I have a simple question:

- If there wasn't a price difference between the two, which one would you go with and why?

P.S. Grinder-wise, I'm planning on going with the Eureka Specialita. I would go with the Niche Zero but I'm not able to order it in my country and besides that, there always has to be something to wish for :)

Thanks a ton!

Being locked in due to COVID, like most other people, I decided to pick up a new hobby/daily routine: making coffee, and ultimately making home espresso. I'm a complete beginner and I'm spending countless hours doing my research about everything to get started. The only coffee machine we own is a Nespresso CitiZ pod system with the built in milk frother, using Trader Joes pods, and we've been drinking that stuff for years. I finally figure it's time to upgrade and find out how good I can make home espresso. I'm even learning to do pour overs!

I initially started my search looking at the Breville Bambino, but I wanted something that would last me more than a couple years. With a $800 USD budget for the espresso machine in mind, as well as what's currently in stock, I'm trying to decide between 3 different machines for my skill level, as well as good build quality:

Gaggia RI9380/46 Classic Pro - $449.00 https://www.wholelattelove.com/collections/semi-automatic-espresso-machines/products/gaggia-classic-pro

Lelit PL41TEM Anna PID Espresso Machine - $629.00 https://www.1st-line.com/buy/lelit-pl41tem-anna-pid-espresso-machine/

Rancilio Silvia M - $735.00 https://www.wholelattelove.com/collections/semi-automatic-espresso-machines/products/rancilio-silvia-m-espresso-machine

In your experience, what machine would you recommend that would give you the most bang for your buck at this price range? I'm aware these are all single boiler machines, and most people will say to get a dual boiler or HX or E61, but I'm not interested in spending +$1000 on a machine at this time. Perhaps after a few years of learning on a beginner machine, I'll want to upgrade to something a bit more substantial. From what I've read, the Classic Pro is a great entry level espresso machine and comes with everything you need to get started and at a good price for what you're paying for, the Silvia has better build quality but costs a few hundred extra dollars, and the Lelit has a built in PID, but a 57mm portafilter.

I currently don't have a good grinder either. I'd like to pick up a Zero Niche, or something similar with low retention so I can experiment and learn without wasting so many beans, as well as being able to easily switch between making espressos and pour overs, while also not breaking the bank, but I think everyone has the same thought as me and already bought up all the high quality grinders that were available; everything is out of stock, electric or hand powered. I probably won't pick up an espresso machine until I can get a decent grinder, but I wanted to really start narrowing down my choices in the machine I'd like to get.
