GTX 1080 ti vs RTX 3060 Reddit

Right now is a good time to upgrade. The performance jump between the 1080 to the 3060 Ti is there, but if I was you I'd get something with a little more power, like a 3070 Ti. It's a performance upgrade for sure, but perhaps not one that's well worth it.

Also, it's easy to find a 3070 Ti for $700, definitely worth it when you consider that most easy to find 3060 Tis aren't much less than $600. Better yet, there are some ~$800 3080s out there, and those will last you a while.

GTX 480 was a Fermi GPU, with DX11_0, barely any DX12 support, no Vulkan and no compute/async capabilities whatsoever. Also heavy VRAM limited.

GTX 480 was faster than a HD 5870, but PS4 has a GCN2 variant of a HD 7870, with twice the ROPS of a desktop 7870, underclocked to a 7850 level of performance.

A HD 7870 (with 64 ROPs) is easily faster than a 6970 or a GTX 580

So OF COURSE a 7870 is faster than a GTX 480, even when fitting within 1.5 of VRAM available.

1080 ti for 500cad 3060 for 660cad who'd u marry and who'd u kill! GO. and just for the fun of it, who do f*uk with?

1080ti has more raw power but 3060 is much newer with ray tracing and DLSS. Performance is really similar. For 1080p or 1440p I'd probably go 3060. You're gonna see <5 fps difference in most games and 3060 will be supported for much longer

level 2

160$ difference is kinda hard to swallow but u got a point. if 3060 lasts me another 5 years its worth it. hopefully i can sell my 1070 ti

level 1

3060 for sure, everything whoppy said, as well as the better efficiency of the 3060.

GTX 1080 ti vs RTX 3060 Reddit

both are good, it's probably easier to find a 1080 ti, whereas it's impossible to find a 3060 ti nowadays that isn't either a scam or overpriced.

It's been at least a couple of months now since 3060 Tis have been easy to find for a decent price. It's better than a 1080 Ti.

level 2

oh wow, aight, what motherboard and CPU would I need in order to use that GPU

level 1

whereas it's impossible to find a 3060 ti nowadays

That was back in 2020-2021. Nowadays, you can easily grab a 30xx at reasonable price. Of course, this is assuming you are not living in war torn area or some hell hole.

So I'm in the market for a new GPU, currently running an overclocked GTX 970 with this build, so you can imagine how the performance is. In terms of raw performance 1080Ti still looks like a good deal, it outperforms 3060 and almost matches 2080's performance. However, a lot of people are talking about it not having DLSS. Is it such a big deal? I've seen that it does improve performance by a lot at times, but not a lot of games even support it. So, is it worth spending extra money for a less powerful card, that can downres only some of my games for added frames? My target resolution is 1080p and I have zero interest in Ray Tracing. I've got a deal for a used 1080Ti for 450$ and I'm hesitating. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Current PC Spec:

CPU: i7-7700K

MOBO: MSI Z270 SLI PLUS

RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB(2x8GB) 3200MHz DDR4

GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 970 OC

1080 to 3060 is a side grade at best. A 3060 Ti would be a decent upgrade, a 3070 would be great.

If I was in your shoes with a 500 USD budget, I’d have the following options -

A) Buy new, which gets you a 3060/3060 Ti, both of which are 1.5 years old at this point.

B) Buy used now, miner cards might net you something decent. Maybe a 3070?

C) Buy the next Gen new - this could be a wait, Nvidia releases their budget cards a lot later than their high end ones.

D) Buy current gen when next Gen drops - this is probably your best bet. When the 3070 was announced, 2080 Ti cards were going for half their original value. Maybe you can try for something around then, like a 3080?

$160 for 3-5 years warranty, new features, better power efficiency, better dx12 support, longer drivers support. In games that do not have DLSS the 3060 is only a few frames less than the 1080ti.

Will take the 3060 over the 1080ti for those reasons mentioned above.

level 2

fair enough. fr all makes sense ill probably go for 3060. thanks man

level 1

They have similar performance but for sure I will go with 3060. Way newer and supports DLSS which give huge advantage in games over 1080Ti

level 2

yea u got a point. the 160$ different is isn't as big if 3060 is gonna last me like the next 5 years atleast. hopefully i can sell my 1070 ti

level 1

3060 would be new presumably with warranty, 1080Ti would be quite old by now, fans getting worn out etc. Plus 3060 is more power efficient and has newer features like DLSS, RTX, NVenc etc

level 2

cant wait to try rtx honestly

level 1

Where tf are you getting 1080ti for 500 cad? I will find it, and I will buy it. (Knowing where to look helps, thx) I have several strix and a zotac amp extreme and a msi twin frozer. One more wouldn’t hurt. Lol. No I don’t mine shit. Probably should. Sli watercooling is kinda useless

level 2

hahah holyy, do u actually have 3 1080ti on one pc? and u want another?! lol. i found a deal on kijiji, an app in canada where people can sell used things that they dont need no more. the cards probably used heavily cuz the guy reduced his price from 650 to 500. but he is gonna let me test it first. anyways, it don't matter since I think ill just get a 3060. its worth the extra 160.

level 1

I just missed the opportunity of buying a used GTX 1080Ti for 150€ on a local selling platform. I wrote the seller, asking where to pick it up and after I sent the message...a couple of seconds later it got marked as "sold". :-(

level 2

ahh man, dw it happens.. sooner or later you'll find one that exactly what u were looking for. and fr, the prices gone massively down in the last 6 months and availability is getting better so its not such a terrible idea to look at newegg or other stores. i just ordered a 3060 which will arrive in a week tops. cant fuckin wait!

level 1

What the fuck is that price of 3060? $522 usd. Is 1080 ti new? 1080 ti always.

level 2

yea 3060 is available at canada computer store for about 660cad. the 1080 ti for 500 is used, probably for an year atleast. no mining tho, just work and gaming

Is 1080ti better than 3060 reddit?

In terms of raw performance 1080Ti still looks like a good deal, it outperforms 3060 and almost matches 2080's performance.

Is the 3060 better than 1080ti?

The GTX 1080 Ti delivers 62% better performance. It is a way more powerful than RTX 3060. However, if you are a gamer and RTX 3060 is cheaper than the GTX 1080 Ti, I would recommend to obtain RTX 3060 as it is much newer (3 years).

Should I upgrade from 1080ti to 3060?

If they both cost the same, I'd go for the 3060. It'll last you longer, as support for the 1080ti will eventually end, being a 4 year old card already. Plus no dlss or raytracing on the 1080ti, direct x 12 also runs better on the 3060 due to its newer architecture.

Is it worth it to get a 3060 TI instead of 3060?

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060Ti The card aims to deliver a solid performance bump over the RTX 3060, while sitting at a more affordable price point than the higher-end RTX 3070. The 3060Ti offers performance above what is required for most at 1080p, with far greater abilities at 1440p than the standard RTX 3060.
