How bad does paintball hurt Reddit

In my experience (of shots that hit you):

  • 40% don't hurt in the slightest, sometimes you don't even realise you've been hit until someone shouts/points out you've got hit

  • 40% hurt a little but pretty much only for the instant that they hit. They don't leave any lasting pain

  • 15% hurt enough to make you think twice about coming out of cover again so gung-ho

  • 5% hurt enough to make you wish you had armour

Ultimately I think it's a nice blend - the shots hurt enough for (most people) not to go completely gung-ho and just come running out of cover firing like a nutter. That makes it feel a bit more tense/interesting to me because it means being shot feels like it has a bit more meaning than in, say, airsoft or laser-quest type games (where people are just dead, revived, dead, revived etc.).

Best way to describe it, if you wear a thin layer or bdus it will sting, no shirt or tank top it will hurt, if you wear a sweater it won't hurt or sting as much as the previous two. It really hurts and is more of shock the first couple of times because you are not used to that level of intensity and pain all at once, but after going regularly it lessens over time, but that is all depending on wear you get hit of course. I've been shot in the most gnarly of ways over the past 5 years since I started playing, I've been shot in the nuts, the the back of the head, the ears, been shot point blank with multiple first strike rounds at an event were mercy was not an option and couldn't use melee weapons because of Covid-19, but out of all that the only one I dread is getting it in the nuts every other time its like meh, hit!... gg and respawn.

Been shot a bunch of times, all over the body. I play a day every weekend, with a weekend break every 6 weeks or so.

Not going to lie, it hurts, but for a short period of time. (10-25 seconds.) Also, when you are all hopped up on adrenaline, the pain duration is even shorter.

The times you get hit multiple times, your brain kinda groups all of them together as one pain, so even that isn't that bad.

Bruises will happen, but they ALWAYS look worse than they actually are. The pain is close to non-existent while they recover/heal.

I don't want the end up super sore from playing one round of paintball.

You will probably be more tired than sore. The only time I've been in pain off the field was when I got shot in the neck in the same spot that I was just shot the previous game. It just felt raw, and was very tender for a hour or so, but no bruising.

On a serious note, I'd best describe it as the occasional quick jolt you get when you flick on a light switch and there's static. A paintball hit is a quick whack that makes you go "oh shit," jump a little, and then you're good.

The closer you are to the projectile, the more it'll hurt. If you're worried about pain, wear layers.

Honestly, it can be anywhere from a light "wait, I was hit?" to a quick "wet-towel whip" kind of feeling (though this is almost always because the shooter is too close or has their velocity turned too high, or both.)

There are a few variables that'll effect balistic based pain. Velocity of projectile, trajectory, distance, calibre (.68 or .50), the grade of paint, and coverage of target area. If you're going to "test with a friend", make sure their gun is set to the same settings as on the field (usually around 280fps) and that they are more than 10 feet away.

Problem areas are pretty easy to cover if you're really worried about the pain factor. Gloves on hands; baggy, but breathable, overshirt / pants for most of the body; maybe a neck-guard. (Getting shot in the throat absolutely sucks.)

Since this will be your first time, you'll likely be in an all-rental game. For these, I recommend staying roughly further than 10ft out from any enemies (and clueless friendlies). This will help keep things enjoyable. Don't go for any "surrenders" or "bunker knocks" unless you feel comfortable doing so. And for the love of the game, stay on the move. This is a game of angles.

Hope this helps, FlagC.

It can hurt... Depending on where you get hit... Usually it doesn't, but I've taken some hits that most definitely hurt!

Neck, funny bone, butt, tit, nuts...

Just be honest with them! Normally you don't even feel it, but one of the big reasons paintball is so fun, is that you will DIVE out of the way to avoid being hit BECAUSE it hurts.

Paintball injuries won't be too extensive, but you should expect a few minor bruises and bumps after playing.
