Her brother, Callum, is a well-liked teacher who has gone missing. In Elise’s search for her brother, they both become captured in a remote, abandoned farm. Their captor hates Callum, and refuses to explain why, but she has little interest in Elise. So she offers a gruesome bargain: she'll let Elise go - if Elise kills Callum. That way, Elise can't talk to the police, not without getting arrested for murder. Years ago, when everyone turned against Elise, Callum was the only person who stood by her. But if Elise refuses the deal, they'll both die. With the clock ticking, Elise is forced to confront the choice: will she kill her brother to save herself? ©2021 Jack Heath (P)2021 Audible Australia Pty Ltd. EXCELLENT!Got this book for free and had low expectations.... but boy was i wrong! Even from the start, it was gripping! Very well written and narrated. Highly recommend! 6 people found this helpful
Recommended - dark and twistyThis was a freebie, and like so many Audible freebies recently most entertaining. Only about 6 hours, but I enjoyed every one of them. Elise, the main character is flawed and likeable despite her difficult past. Looking for her lost brother, she is convinced has not run away but is actually missing. Stephanie is dark. Her hidden depths and darkness are tragic and relatable. It's a twisty dark story with some unexpected twists which delight and enthrall. Definitely recommended listen. 6 people found this helpful

Excellent, twisty thrillerJack Heath has conjured a compulsive thriller about disgraced ex-athlete Elise, who's kept searching for her missing brother, a schoolteacher in small-town Australia, even as the police and others presume he's fled after drugs were found in his house. Grasping for even the smallest of leads, Elise stumbles into something incredibly dark, which puts her life and others at risk. Heath does an excellent job drawing listeners in with a tense, intriguing storyline that turns on itself several times. Hannah Monson does a great job with the narration, creating a smooth flow to match the unfolding storyline. I was transported into the story and taken for a great ride, and found myself devouring the whole thing in a day, unable to stop listening. Recommended. 3 people found this helpful
Better than I expectedThis story was much better than I expected based on the description. Lots of complicated plot twists and connections. A grieving mother, a hired killer, a sister trying to find her brother and so much more. Lots of action and some surprising twists to this story. Worth the listen. 2 people found this helpful

Not my cuppa teaThe synopsis sounded good but I just could not become invested in the story. Only a short listen but even so I was restless for more and it didn't happen. Could have been the mood I was in but I didn't even listen 'til the end because I didn't care!! Perhaps you will have more luck - and be in a better mood!!! 2 people found this helpful

Great Read that keeps you guessingReally enjoyed this! Fast paced and full of twists & turns. It’s a story that makes you think about what you would do if you found yourself in the same position as Elisse.

narrator kept gasping at end of sentencevery distracting had to jump out of the story, maybe she was anxious but I started to feel anxious instead of enjoying the story. maybe audible can edit out the gasps? bit of a shame for audible original In the spirit of reconciliation, Audible Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
