How long will it take to activate my card and when can I start using it once it’s activated?It only takes a few minutes to activate your card and set your PIN. Once you have completed the process, you can start using your card straight away. How much time do I have to activate my card once I’ve received it?You should activate your card as soon as you receive it, even if you don’t use it very often. How do I check to confirm my card has been activated?At the end of the activation process, you’ll receive a message, ‘Your card has been successfully activated’, which means your card is ready to go. If you don’t receive this message, please call 13 22 65 or visit your nearest NAB branch. I’ve forgotten my PIN. How quickly can I get a new one?To change your PIN on any personal or business NAB Debit card or NAB Credit card, simply login to the NAB app or NAB Internet Banking, head to Cards, click on the relevant card then click on Change your PIN. To use this option, you’ll need to be registered for NAB SMS Security. You can also call us on 13 22 65 or visit your nearest NAB branch for more options. Why do I need to activate my personal NAB credit card and NAB Debit card and not my other NAB cards?So far, we have introduced this enhanced security functionality to personal NAB Debit cards, NAB Platinum Debit cards and NAB Credit cards. In future this functionality may also be extended to our other NAB cards. Can I activate my card or change my PIN while I’m overseas?Yes, you can use the NAB app or NAB Internet banking. To use these options, you will need to be able to receive a security code on your mobile phone so you will need to be registered for NAB SMS Security. For this, you will need to have your phone on global roaming whilst overseas. If you can’t activate using these channels, you can call us on +61 3 8641 9083. What happens if I don't activate my card?If you don’t activate your card you won’t be able to use it. However, if you have an Android™ phone and want to make contactless payments using your NAB Credit or NAB Debit card, you can use NAB Pay - NAB Pay lets you tap and pay on the go so you don’t have to carry cards. For payments $100 or over, you'll need to enter your PIN. If you don’t have a PIN you can set one by going to the NAB app or NAB Internet Banking Cards > Select your card > Change your PIN. You will need to have SMS Security set up before you do this. Which cards can I activate via SMS?You can activate your NAB Credit or Debit cards via SMS if it’s new, a replacement card or if you’ve moved to another type of card. Will I have to activate my card if I'm an additional cardholder?Yes, additional cardholders will need to activate their own card. How do I activate an inactive debit card?You need to login to the respective bank's internet banking portal. Once you log in, go to the section marked as 'Debit Card'. There will be instructions on how to generate an ATM PIN for your Debit Card. Generate an ATM PIN by following those instructions and your Debit Card will be activated online.
How can I make my card active?Insert your debit card into the ATM. Enter the debit card number and the ATM pin. You will then be prompted to create a new ATM pin. Follow the instructions on the machine to enter your new ATM PIN, and your card will be activated.
Why is my debit card saying inactive?If a card is set to “inactive,” this means the card is ready to be used, but just not activated yet.
Can a debit card be reactivated?Some issuers allow cardholders to lock the card, either online or by requesting it through customer service. This option ensures that the card isn't usable if someone finds it, but can be reactivated it if you find it.
