How do you make god laugh tell him your plans

This is a quote from Woody Allen, I believe the original is an old Yiddish proverb “We plan, God laughs.” but you get the idea. Every time I heard this sentence I would laugh, I could always relate to it but not as much as I do right now…

Why so? you may ask. Here is why.

I was flying back to Holland on the 1st of August. My plan was to stay at a friend’s place for a few days, find myself a new room and move in, settle down, get my boxes out of the storage space.

Well… This obviously didn’t happen.

I had made some resolutions over the summer. To do sports regularly, eat less pasta and more vegetables and overall to have a more organized life.

Well… This obviously didn’t happen either. When you fail at the first step, which is finding shelter, it becomes impossible to pursue the other steps.

My parents were flying in the day after me and so I crashed at their hotel for a week before I started house-hopping. (A shout-out to all the people who opened up their doors and couches to me and the many more who offered to do the same, I am eternally grateful. Once I get the keys to my room, there will be a party and you will all be honorary guests!)

I really improved my survival skills in this past month, as I didn’t even have a suitcase and lived off plastic bags with only a few pairs of clothes. It’s not easy being a Nomad! (If you are a future International Studies student and you don’t understand this sentence, just wait around for the upcoming Global History lectures! And the Mongols! Okay sorry, I’ll stop making inside jokes…)

I also wanted to write many, many posts during this month about how it is to start university, how El-Cid was in my experience etc. but… Well yes, I was busy being homeless.

I can’t complain though, since the last stop that this house-hopping brought me to is… Paris!

Side-note: I did find a room; I’m only waiting for the 1st of September to receive the keys and enjoying Paris in the meantime. Thank God the pressure and the stress is off my shoulders, I won’t lie at one point I may have had a nervous breakdown by a canal and I may have had some shots with a bartender at 2pm.

Hoping all the best for the still homeless.

Au revoir, with love from Paris!

How do you make god laugh tell him your plans

I’ve always been a fan and collector of insightful quotes, and this one by Allan Konigsberg — better known to the world as Woody Allen — is my favorite. It’s a spin-off of an old Yiddish proverb: ‘We plan, God laughs.’ And what better persona than the helpless, schlumpy Allen to deliver the message to one and all that we are not in control of our lives as much as we would like to think we are. There’s something so humbling about the attitude there that works for me. Here’s why:

Few things turn me off more than arrogance and self-taught superiority. This quote aims to pretty much knock anyone of that ilk on their ass. When it comes down to it, we all need to be stay humble because when it comes to the scales of life you never know when you might be on top or on the bottom.

With a wry smirk, this quote funnels all the crazy quirks and twists of fate into one humanizing vision, with a touch of self-effacing humor thrown in for good measure. Life is always going to be full of surprises and compromises. Everyone knows that. Sometimes we’re just too scared to face the future. These words help me better understand and prepare for the inevitable.

I’m the last one to push my spiritual beliefs on anyone. You believe what you want to believe. I’ll do the same. But I need to know there is a true and ultimate force in control of my life, especially during those times when things aren’t going so well for me.

· For better or worse, when it comes to making God laugh, I’m afraid I’ve never been much of a comedian. In fact, as far back as I can remember I’ve struggled mightily when it comes to making plans and coming up with ideas for my future. Too afraid to take chances maybe. All the more reason this quote puts things in a better perspective and eases my guilt every time I read it.

Too often while growing up we are told by parents and pundits that we are in control of our destiny. That we alone are masters of our own universe. That is, only if we have the guts to see into the future and grab what is ours for the taking.

What this quote does is level the playing field by reminding us that no matter how strong — or weak — we think we are, no matter what we think we can or cannot do in this life, there is still a Higher Power, one watching over everything. Almost as if, upon hearing our well-laid-out plans, God smiles like the wise old parent and chuckles ever so quietly, “Uh, we’ll see about that.”

Something worth thinking about.

What is the say when you make plans God laughs?

The Yiddish expression “Der Mensch Tracht, Un Gott Lacht," means "man plans and God laughs.” While we go about planning our days and lives, we sometimes learn that God or the universe or whatever we call our higher power has another plan for us. It's a saying that resonates with the year-plus lost to COVID.

Who said you make plans and God laughs?

This is a quote from Woody Allen, I believe the original is an old Yiddish proverb “We plan, God laughs.” but you get the idea. Every time I heard this sentence I would laugh, I could always relate to it but not as much as I do right now…

Does the Bible say God laughs at our plans?

Three times in the Book of Psalms (Psalm 2:4; 37:13; 59:8) we read that God shall laugh. The word "laugh" does not mean what we usually think of today as laughing with "joy" or "making a joke of." It always means, "to hold in derision — to mock or to scorn."

Why does God laugh at our plans?

There's an old Yiddish proverb, "We plan, God laughs" that expresses a degree of truth that when humans plan something to happen things turn out different than hoped. There is a quote with similar intent by Woody Allen, "if you want to make God laugh, tell Him about your plans."
