Food tastes funny and I get a stomach ache if I eat food cooked more than 3 days ago. Raw food lasts much longer than cooked.

We separate the chicken and bone it if we are being extra diligent once it's cool enough, wrap tightly in foil and freeze meal sized chunks. It freezes beautifully and we now get 2 chickens every trip. 4 breast packs. 2 thigh packs and the wings and drums are eaten fresh. We get at least 12 generous servings from each chicken.

I get rotisserie chicken from Loblaws and the sticker on it always says that it is “best before” the next day. For example, I got it today so the sticker says that is packaged on October 12th and it is best before October 13th.

The chicken is fairly big so it takes me at least a couple days to finish. I understand that best before date does not equal expiration date so I believe there’s a little margin before it actually goes bad. I wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations in terms of how long a rotisserie chicken from Loblaws would last?

I don't know the catering or USDA standard but I eat refrigerated foods within the week.

It freezes well, so immediately freeze up small portions for later.

In my house chicken is stripped from the bone immediately after it's cooked and we set aside sliced and diced chicken for other meals. If it's in the fridge for five days uncovered, it's already dried out and like jerky plus may have bacteria growing in the carcass. Better to remember the 3 day rule for covered proteins and vegetables in air tight containers and set the meat aside for freezing for other meals - it only takes a few minutes to do this and saves you some money by not wasting food. You probably worked hard for the money to buy the chicken the first time, why throw your money out with the garbage simply because you were too lazy to protect your investment. Get into the habit of budgeting your meals. Chicken I cook today gets used in four additional meals. Plus I make soup or stock out of the bones. A frugal person doesn't waste money or energy.

The National Restaurant Association recommends throwing out cooked TCS food after 7 days, assuming it's been covered and kept below 41 degrees. It's probably a pretty conservative estimate. Assuming you're not running a restaurant, I'd say it's fine for a couple more days.

Safest assumption is 1 week. After that, it's going to need to pass the sniff test.

Heat it back up to kill any new germs every few days it'll last at least a week. Freeze the rest

level 2

Heating and cooling chicken multiple times actually increases the number of bacteria present. You're safer only heating it up twice, and if you aren't certain you will eat all you've cooked, cool it as quickly as possible and freeze it for later use.
