OPERA FROM THE BALCONY

This weekend, and on select Saturdays throughout the summer, enjoy opera music in a unique way, as singers perform right above your head on Hanover Street. 

Opera from the Balcony is back for another season at Tresca Restaurant. From 2-to-4 p.m. in the afternoon every other Saturday, listen to members of the North End Music and Performing Arts Center as they take to the balcony above the busy and historic North End street.

BOSTON LIGHTS: A LANTERN EXPERIENCE

"Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience" is now open at Franklin Park Zoo through September 25. Every night from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., explore over 50 large scale displays made up of hundreds of lanterns located throughout the zoo.

The North Attleboro Firefighters Kids Day Carnival is going on through Sunday. During the four-day family event, find carnival rides, fireworks, a classic car show, a fire truck parade, and more.

The lanterns create luminous scenes from the rainforest, whimsical ocean displays with creatures of the deep, glowing corridors of lotus and bamboo, traditional Asian lanterns and a stunning 66-foot-long rose corridor. There is even a stunning 82-foot-long “octopus tunnel” that is sure to surprise and delight guests of all ages.

A visitor favorite at Boston's Franklin Park Zoo is back, with hundreds of large-scale lanterns open to the public. More than 55 large-scale displays comprised of hundreds of colorful lanterns are spread across the 72 acres of Franklin Park Zoo. The zoo says there are many sparkling new lantern additions along with a few returning favorites. "As guests stroll the zoo, they will see luminous scenes from the rainforest, whimsical ocean displays with creatures of the deep, glowing corridors of lotus and bamboo, traditional Asian lanterns and a stunning 66-foot long rose corridor," the Franklin Park Zoo said in a news release. One of the exhibits includes an 82-foot-long octopus tunnel with eyes that open and tentacles that change color, according to the zoo. Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience at Franklin Park Zoo will run from 6 to 10:30 p.m. from July 22 nightly through Sept. 25.

Visitors can stroll amongst hundreds of dazzling lanterns 

 Boston, Mass. – This summer, visitors to Franklin Park Zoo will once again enjoy a memorable evening experience with hundreds of luminous, beautifully crafted large-scale lanterns when Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience, presented by National Grid, opens on July 22 for its third year.

“Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience has been incredibly popular, so we are thrilled to bring this unique experience back to Franklin Park Zoo,” said Bob Chabot, Zoo New England Chief Operating Officer. “We look forward to welcoming both new and returning visitors of all ages as they immerse themselves in the beauty of the lights. This year, we’re offering visitors a glimpse into outer space, as well as lanterns inspired by the beauty of the natural world.”

How long does it take to enjoy the event? The average ZooLights visit lasts from 1 - 1.5 hours, but can vary greatly depending on walking speed, rest breaks, etc. The Zoo is approximately 24 acres in size (please note, some exhibits are not available during ZooLights).

How long is the Zoo Lights Walk-Thru? Guests can walk the course in ~15 - 20 minutes, but are encouraged to hang out in Zoo Central until the event closes.
