If you bore it to 3.90" then it probably weighs within a pound of LS6. Likewise, the 5.3 and 4.8 have thicker cylinder walls than the 6.0 (though not the same OD), and they also have the DOD bosses in the valley, so I'll make a rough guess that the 5.3/4.8 weighs 6-10lb. more than the 6.0 shown above. How heavy is an aluminum engine block?engine blocks weigh about 44 lbs.
Is the L33 a good motor?Just like the LS1 or LS6, the LM4 and L33 are strong and lightweight. With upgraded internals, they can handle around 850 hp. And, if you can find one, it will definately cost you less than an LS1 or LS6. These 5.3L engines share a 3.780 in.
How much HP can a L33 handle?Another bonus of the L33 is it had beefier connecting rods than earlier Gen. 3 engines and had full floating pins. They can handle about 750+ hp and 7,000 rpm in boosted applications (at least for a while).
