How often should I shampoo my hair male Reddit

I wash my hair every day but only use shampoo once every three days. One day i only use conditioner and another day i only use water.

People shampoo their hair far too much. I actually went without shampoo for a year and it was a very interesting experience. Your scalp will adjust and stop producing as much sebum.

The past few times I've gone on camping holidays.. after one day my friends have greasy disgusting hair where as i could last around one week and no one would even notice i hadn't washed it.

Its super soft and healthy, its natural and saves money on shampoo.

There's a lot of confusion over there but if interested, check out r/nopoo

It's all about the Ph balance of the oils on your scalp. Shampoo washes away the natural oils, and conditioner replenishes them, artificially. There's nothing really bad about these two things, but with a little patience, you'll find they simply aren't necessary.

There is an alternative to shampoo--baking soda. Put some baking soda in a spray bottle with some water. How much baking soda depends on your hair type; finer hair probably could use less, while thicker and curlier probably needs a bit more. You might need to experiment.

Scrub your hair under the shower well, and at the end apply a few spritzes of the baking soda solution. Rub it in well, all over your scalp. And it's your scalp that's the important thing, not necessarily your hair. Gently rinse with water.

There is also an alternative to conditioner--vinegar. Apple cider vinegar seems to be the best choice. Same thing as with the baking soda--dilute some vinegar with water (experiment for the right ratio, but 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water is a good start) and spray in hair after rinsing out the baking soda. Rub it in well and leave it. Your hair will smell like vinegar for a while, but it wears off after an hour or so.

You can wean yourself off shampoo and conditioner with this. But be aware that your hair will look a bit dingy and dirty looking for a week or two or three. That's normal. It'll be perfectly clean, assuming you scrubbed good under the shower spray, but it'll look kind of ratty.

But eventually that scalp oil Ph will balance itself out and your hair will look AWESOME. Seriously. Give it a shot.

I would say at 1-2 times a week. Everytime I work out or Get really sweaty.

However, sometimes I actually just forget about it. I think a month or so ago I probably went over two weeks, before one day shit my hair is greasy.

I heard you should not wash it too often, but idk maybe someone can confirm.

I hardly ever wash, and haven’t conditioned in years. I found out long ago (while poor and traveling a lot. So showers were often in truck stop showers...gross) that hair is only greasy everyday when it’s washed everyday. A friend of mine who worked at a high end salon in Atlanta told me that the less you wash your hair, the less grease it produces. She said she hadn’t washed her hair in 2 years, and it looked fresh and clean. So I decided I’d try it. Now, I MIGHT wash my hair once a year. I work out, I climb, I go to the gym, I run, and all I have to do is wet my hair in the shower and I’m good to go.

And to answer the ensuing questions:

  • Yes, I found a woman who didn’t think I was discussing, and she is now my wife of 7 years.

  • Yes, my wife knows I don’t wash my hair (she washes hers everyday)

  • Yes, I shower daily, and wash the rest of my body with soap, just not my hair

I’ve been shampooing my hair every day for the last 25+ years. I recently overheard a conversation about not shampooing your hair everyday and I was pretty surprised. I thought shampooing was the only way to clean it after a long day.

I don’t have very long hair, it’s like a clip 2 on the sides and a few inches on top. If I’m not shampooing, what should I be doing on the off days? Just using conditioner?

Edit: I should ask mention that I run almost every day and get very sweaty during. Can I still skip the shampoo every few days?

Washing is different from shampooing and conditioning your hair.

You probably shouldn't use a lot of shampoo regularly. Shampoo strips away natural oils in your hair. If you shampoo too often your body will produce extra oil to make up for the fact of striping it away often.

You'll probably need to provide more information like close up pictures of your hair and descriptions of how thin/thick it is. If it's curly or straight.

A lot of stuff goes into it.

I suffered from premature baldness at a pretty early age (11). The doctors gave me some funky drugs and I eventually got my hair back.

They warned me about how since this is a second "growth" the chemicals in shampoos people are paranoid about can cause it to fall again.

I still use Head and Shoulders EVERY SINGLE DAY for my dandruff, and now at 28, have yet to see the hair loss return.

People are just paranoid. Wash your hair, greasy hair is gross.

How often should Guys shampoo their hair?

There's no one-size-fits-all rule for washing frequency. But on average, a guy should wash his hair two to three times per week. This routine is standard for maintaining clean hair with a healthy moisture balance.

Should a man shampoo his hair everyday?

In fact, you should not shampoo every day. The exact number depends on your hair, but think more like two or three days a week. Shampooing removes oil. And it's totally logical to think that shampooing more would mean less oil—totally linear.

Is it OK to shampoo every 3 days?

How Much Should You Wash? For the average person, every other day, or every 2 to 3 days, without washing is generally fine. “There is no blanket recommendation. If hair is visibly oily, scalp is itching, or there's flaking due to dirt,” those are signs it's time to shampoo, Goh says.

Are you supposed to use shampoo everyday?

Try not to shampoo every day, as washing too frequently can strip the hair, leaving it brittle and prone to breakage. Aim to wash every other day at the most, or wait a few days between shampoos if you're able.
