I never know when is a good time to evolve mons that need a trade or stone to do so. I don't want to miss getting a move by evolving to early. Around what level/s is best to evolve Haunter into Gengar and Growlithe into Arcanine?

Haunter ASAP since it won't miss out on moves as a Gengar.
You can pretty much do the same thing with Growlithe since it'll be able to relearn any moves it missed as an Arcanine through the move relearner

You don't need a friend code in these games, you set a unique code at the union room each time you want to trade.

However you need to head to the trade board to do trades

Gen 1 trade evolutions should be done right away since they learn all the same moves at the same levels. Stone evolutions you usually want to hold off on until they learn all the moves you want. Unless you've got heart scales for the Move Relearner, anyway.

Lv33 if you don't have a Shadow Ball Tm
LV50 if you want it to have Destiny Bond

If none of the above matters to you, asap would be fine.

Any time you want the higher BST of Gengar. Generally, evolving for the original 4 trade-evolvers can be done as soon as they get their regular evolution done.

Gengar learns those moves at the same level as Haunter. So ASAP.

Once you reach Level 25, Gastly will evolve into Haunter. So, all you have to do is focus on raising its level. It starts with taking this mischievous-looking ball of gas with you everywhere you go. Bring it out for battles, and if you can, use it for rematches too.

Can you evolve a Haunter without trading brilliant diamond?

You no longer need to trade to evolve Haunter!

How do you evolve Haunter in brilliant diamond and shining pearl?

Haunter will evolve into Gengar by trading it to another player. We recommend doing this with a friend or someone you can trust as your partner will need to trade the Pokemon back to you once it evolves.
