Tutorial wasn't that helpful for me either. When the enemy attacks, press the movement key that points in the direction of the enemy (not of his weapon's direction or anything) at the same time hitting left mouse (weaker cut). Some attacks you can't parry (yellow glow, I think).
If enemy is to your right, press D and attack. On front-left, press A and W and attack.

No it's grand. the timing is quite tight on it though. Enemies flash orange just before attacking. Parry then.

Its not really "when it feels" like and more you actually have to pace the block.
Weak attacks can cancel into the defensive stance fast, but strong attacks need to be recovered from. That and its not "and then", its do them simultaneously.

Well of course, considering easy mode as automatic parry.

pracitice makes perfect
the block activate on default, a parry will intiate either an immediate attack or a series of moves to go into a Zandatsu
It's best to memorize 1 on 1 fights, so you can clearly see their attack animation. But when your crowded or trapped in a corner then your going to rely on "feel." It will eventually come to you, just keep practicing.

I played this on the 360 a year ago (or whenever it came out) and am considering getting it on PC, but one thing that bugged me- and is relevant to this topic- is:

Parrying when fighting multiple opponents seemed wonky. In particular, if I started attacking an enemy at 12 o'clock then tried to parry at 3 o'clock (D+LMB using keyboard notation) Raiden would instead carry on attacking the 12 o'clock enemy.

I guess it could be by design, if the developers didn't want you to break out of a combo to parry but that doesn't seem right.

Anyone have this issue on PC?

Pretty sure that I blocked enemies from front and back at the same time. Playing on Keyboard & Mouse.

Can I just say the.... Tutorial on this game is terrible. Especially considering it breaks away with a lot of the tropes found in other hack n slashers so you need to learn a whole new set of mechanics... that being said I'm finally starting to get a hang of the combat.

as i said in the other topic about parrying, you have to press x and left analog stick towards the enemy at the same time as the enemy's attack is about to connect, not when the flash of red light happens, the flash of red light is only telling you the enemy is about to do a parry-able attack, you still have to time it so your x+left analog stick towards, attack is executed at the same moment the enemy's attach is just about to connect.

You can not spam this either as if you try to spam it, it will just block the attack.

How do you parry in Metal Gear Rising?

A parry can be performed by pressing the light attack button and moving towards the enemy at the same time, then immediately letting go of the movement button. On a controller, you only have to momentarily flick the control stick in the right direction.

How do you block in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance PC?

To parry enemy attacks effectively, players need to block them by moving in the enemy's direction (in relation to the camera) and press the attack button. It doesn't matter what the attack looks like, just where the enemy is standing.

How do you parry multiple hits in Metal Gear Rising?

The trouble isn't necessarily parrying one attack, though; it's parrying multiple attacks in a row. To do this, you cannot swivel the analog stick in the direction of each attack. Instead, you must let the analog stick go back to the neutral position before flicking it in the direction of each attack.

Can you parry grad Metal Gear Rising?

To push back the GRAD, Raiden can either use sword slashes or parry the boss's armor panels when it attacks Raiden in close range. Parrying tends to be the quickest method or by using Raiden's sliding combo attack. Once pushed enough, the GRAD will switch modes and a second fight phase will begin.
