Is Golden Parry Good Elden Ring?

So just got this weapon art, and would love to use it on my sword and shield paladin, but uhhhh, is it good at all? it just seems the same as parry, except it has an fp cost. I'm not really seeing much benefit to this "range" thing it mentions at all.

Would love to hear if anyone is actually finding success with it.

There are many facets to combat in Elden Ring. Players are free to approach fights from multiple angles, incorporating spells, incantations, different weapon types, and even items to help them gain an edge over their enemies. Although the default for many players is to simply dodge away from enemy attacks, there are some that prefer to stand tall in the face of danger, holding a shield outward to block incoming strikes. Those that dabble in this style of combat are also capable of parrying the enemy, which will cause an instant opening in which they can "riposte" and hit their foe with a critical attack.

Unfortunately, parrying can be a bit difficult for newcomers (and even seasoned veterans on some bosses). Thankfully, there is one particular Ash of War that can help players parry enemies easier by increasing the hitbox and range of their parry, as well as making it easier to land when fighting against a foe. Although it's still a "parry" and players will need to make sure they time it right, the timing is a bit more forgiving than the traditional method. Here's how players can get their hands on Golden Parry in Elden Ring and what exactly it does.

Where To Find Golden Parry In Elden Ring

Elden Ring Golden Parry Location

Thankfully, Golden Parry isn't too difficult to find and collect but it does require players to make it all the way to the Altus Plateau. This is a higher-level area that many players won't reach until the mid-game but it is possible to rush there from spawn if players are willing to put in the work and run past strong enemies along the way. To do so, Tarnished will need to first get their hands on the two halves of the Dectus Medallion. From there, they can ride the Grand Lift of Dectus up to the Altus Plateau. There is an alternate route into the expansive area but it requires players to do battle with Magma Wyrm Makar, a particularly imposing sword-wielding wyrm found at the top of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

Once players make it into the Altus Plateau, they'll want to head to the Outer Wall Phantom Tree Site of Grace. From there, they can head North until they spot a set of stairs jutting to the right towards Leyndell, Royal Capital. Near the bottom of these stairs, on the left-hand side when going up, players will spot a Teardrop Scarab perched on a railing above. Killing this Scarab will reward players with the Golden Parry Ash of War. It's important to note that getting too close to this Scarab will cause it to flee and players will need to reset at the Site of Grace. Because of this, it's recommended to snipe it with a Bow or Magic.

What Does Golden Parry Do?

Golden Parry makes it easier for players to land a parry block by infusing their small or medium shield with an Erdtree Incantation. It will cost players 4 FP each time they use the ability, and activating it will cause a wide-arcing golden wave of energy to emit from the shield. This parry has a much larger hitbox than the traditional one and it doesn't require players to actually contact the enemy in order to parry them. This means that players can parry an enemy attack at range, without the need to let them get close. It's also possible to block multiple enemies thanks to the cone shape of the golden wave. If timed correctly, hitting this parry will work just as a traditional parry does, staggering the enemy and leaving them wide open for a critical attack.
