Oculus Quest 2 cast to Samsung TV

Oculus Quest 2 cast to Samsung TV

One of the brilliant things about the Oculus Quest 2 is the ability to cast it on your Samsung TV. This will enable you to play in VR mode, while the other people in the room can still enjoy whatever is going on in the headset. So, how do you case the Oculus Quest 2 to a Samsung TV? Well, it is a lot easier than you may think!

The Oculus Quest 2 can only be cast via Chromecast, and since the Samsung TV uses Airplay for screen mirroring, your options are to either cast your Oculus Quest 2 to your Samsung TV by casting to your Oculus Quest phone app and then Mirroring your Phone to your Samsung TV via Airplay. Or your alternative method is to purchase a Chromecast device; this will allow you to directly cast to your Samsung TV.

Let’s go into a bit more depth on casting the Oculus Quest 2 to your Samsung TV. We will also help you to diagnose some of the issues that may appear when you try to connect the two up.

Firstly, it’s important to note that the Oculus Quest 2 can only be cast via Chromecast, and since the Samsung TV uses Airplay instead of Chromecast, you have two options for connecting to your TV.

The first is by connecting to your iPhone’s Oculus app and then Airplay your Phone to your Samsung TV.

The second option is to purchase a Chromecast device; this way, you’ll be able to connect to your Samsung TV directly.

Let’s take a look at both methods in greater detail.

Method #1 connecting your Oculus Quest 2 via Airplay

  • Press the Oculus Logo on your Oculus controller to bring up the menu
  • Select the Share icon located on the right side of the menu
  • Select cast, then select cast to Oculus app
  • on your mobile device, confirm the connection process
  • now on your iPhone, slide downwards from the right corner of your screen and select Screen Mirroring
  • a dropdown menu will pop up. Now select your Samsung TV (Ensure both devices are connected to the same WI-FI)

And that’s it! Your Oculus Quest 2 should now be casting to your Samsung TV.

Method #2 Casting Via external Chromecast Device

Casting to your Samsung TV via a Chromecast device is fairly straightforward.

  • Press there Oculus Logo on your controller to bring up the menu
  • Select the Share icon located on the right side of the menu
  • Select cast, now select your Chromecast device

And that’s it! You’re all good to go.

Firstly, you will need to ensure that you have one of the following:

  • Your Samsung TV has Chromecast built into it.
  • You have an external Chromecast that you have plugged into your TV

Look for the option that says ‘Cast From’.

Select your Samsung TV and then hit that start button.

If you have done everything correctly, your Oculus Quest 2 should now be shared straight to your Samsung TV.

Why Won’t My Oculus Quest 2 Cast To My Samsung TV?

If you have followed our instructions perfectly, then your Oculus Quest 2 should appear on your Samsung TV. There may still be a few issues, though.

The TV and Oculus Quest 2 Are Not On The Same Wi-Fi Network

Both the TV and the Oculus Quest 2 have to be on the same Wi-Fi network. If you want to reduce network lag, then your mobile device is going to have to be on the same network too.

If you see nothing on the screen when you cast, then chances are that the Wi-Fi isn’t set up correctly.

You Haven’t Set Your TV Up For Chromecast

You must be using Chromecast on your Samsung TV (unless you have a Samsung phone, then you can use SmartThings). If you do not have Chromecast set up, then there is no way to connect the Oculus Quest 2 and the Samsung TV. At least not at the time of writing.

Your Oculus Quest 2 Isn’t Turned On

We know that this may seem obvious. However, often it is the most obvious problem that is the cause of many woes. If you have checked over everything and you are sure the connections are working perfectly, then check your Oculus Quest 2. If it isn’t turned on, then you are never going to be able to see anything on the TV screen, even if everything else has been set up perfectly!

The App You Are Using Doesn’t Support Casting

There are some apps on the Oculus Quest 2 that do not seem to support streaming. This should be clearly labeled on the Oculus Quest store. If you can’t seem to make one app work with the Samsung TV, then there is a good chance that this particular app is not compatible with your TV. Obviously, there is no way that you are going to be able to fix that problem.

Does SmartThings On a Samsung TV Work For Streaming Oculus Quest 2?

SmartThings is exclusive to Samsung phones. You will not be able to download it on any other device.

As you may well know, SmartThings is Samsung’s answer to Chromecast. If you have a Samsung phone with SmartThings, then you do not have to worry about the TV being compatible with Chromecast. You will be able to use the SmartThings app.

How it works is exactly the same as if you are using Chromecast.

Conclusion

Casting the Oculus Quest 2 to your Samsung TV isn’t too difficult. However, unless you have a Samsung phone, you are going to need to have Chromecast. This can either be an app installed on your Samsung TV, or you will have to purchase additional hardware. Once this is all set up properly, then it is just a case of opening up the Oculus app on your phone and selecting your Samsung TV as a streaming option. Remember, all devices are going to need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network or it won’t work.
