Taylor Swift wrote the song in her hotel room after meeting a man in New York. He used the word "wonderstruck" once, and she put it in the lyrics so he would know who this song is about.

The word "wonderstruck" from these lyrics was used as a name of a fragrance made in partnership between Taylor Swift and Elizabeth Arden. The scent was released in October 2011. Soon after that she released another one called "Wonderstruck Enchanted".

Taylor Swift explained the meaning of this song's bridge, "I think my favorite part of is the part where, in the bridge, it goes to sort of a stream of consciousness of 'Please don't be in love with someone else/Please don't have somebody waiting on you'. Because at that moment, that's exactly what my thoughts were. And it feels good to write exactly what your thoughts were in a certain moment."

The name of this song could have been the title of the album as well. Big Machine Records president/CEO Scott Borchetta explained, "I'm like, 'Taylor, this record isn't about fairy tales and high school anymore. That's not where you're at. I don't think the record should be called Enchanted.' After the discussion [...] she had the Speak Now title, which comes closer to representing the evolution that the album represents in her career and in her still-young understanding of the world."

"Enchanted" wasn't released as a single but still it sold over 500,000 copies in USA alone and was certified Gold.
