Puzzle quest: the legend returns best class

Hey folks, I hope you've been playing and loving Puzzle Quest: The Legend Continues as much as me, but I did notice that there are some significant changes to the game that render all of the old FAQs for the original release out of date. This is a place to talk about some of the changes to the game, and strategies that people have come up with. Some things I've noticed...

  1. New stat increase curve - It looks like stats no longer provide a linear increase per point invested, rather they taper off the more points you invest. So there's more of an incentive to not just dump everything into your 1 pt./lv skills like before. Looks like every four points, additional points provide less benefit. So getting your other skills up to 4 at least is a pretty compelling option...

  2. New classes - Do the old classes hold up as well as before? How about those new ones? What are you thoughts?

  3. New quests - There's a ton more content here than on the original release, including some really challenging enemies. Share strategies and commiserate over defeats!

  4. Equipment layouts - I've come up with way more potential equipment setups this time than I ever did in the past, that really tweak how some of the classes play. Share your findings!

  5. Anything else!

At least I THINK it was Priest. So far I'm a few hours in and I don't have any damaging spells, so I've been forced to resort to this strategy--
Using Retribution so that the enemy damages me and thus damages themself. basically for every 3 damage they hit me it hurts them some also. So enemies kill themselves this way. Once I got my heal spell I basically healed while they hurt me, and I tried to damage with skulls as well. Ifeel like my damage output is too small and unreliable though, so I've been trying to shore things up with special equipment.

It looks like around level 15 you get a damage spell finally. I can damage enemies by removing their status effects (like Mesmer from guild wars...) But have no way to inflict any outside of equipment abilities so far.

You can reduce incoming damage as well. So far it seems to be a decent defensive class but could use some variety. I'm going to stick with it though.

I forgot you could get special abilities from mounts and all kinds of stuff in this game, which is kind of neat. I'll keep trying to augment the priest the best I can.

My life probably would have been easier if I picked Paladin but I wanted to try something different. I don't know if battles go faster with other classes or not, its been a long time since I played the game on the PSP.

Yes, the battles will go faster with other classes.

Figured as much. Survivability is nice and all but I'm not sure if it's worth it when you take so long to kill anything. Enemies that regenerate are particularly annoying to deal with. When I fought the wood golem it literally just increased in health as time went on and the battle went nowhere, haha.

You may not like the Bard either. The Priest's gameplay sounds similar to the Bard's.

The Bard is easy to keep alive thanks to a high morale aptitude, plus some regeneration from skills. But as far as dishing out damage, I haven't figured that out yet.

On the opposite end of the spectrum; the Paladin, Wizard, and Warrior can deal tons of damage. And they aren't hard to figure out at all. I'd say the Paladin is the easiest to play out of ALL the characters.

I started as a bard, since that seems like the best class in the expansion? But I guess I don't understand its mechanics yet...maybe I should try paladin or wizard.

Yeah, I just got around to leveling my Bard some, and made an unpleasant discovery. Song of Life doesn't appear to do anything, nothing at all. I cast it, but got zero HP? I don't know if the skill is broken or what. I guess I'll move the Bard to the back of the list.

I was looking at the Priest. Looks like the big damage combo will be Intervention + Sword of Sirian. BUT you don't get those skills for a while... Will require some grinding.

Priest has gotten much better. I hit almost level 20 today, and a few things made my life easier. Learning a spell that turns green gems into red ones, and this holy attack that stacks damage with multiple casts. I also increased my battle damage a bit.

Id say it's gotten much better, but I will see if it can hold until the late game. It's rough relying on red gems when it's harder to raise that.

It's good that you can kind of looks for abilities to learn that can synergize with the ones you get.
