Shadow of the tomb raider hdr vs sdr

From PCGamingWiki, the wiki about fixing PC games

This refers to support in games for providing HDR output on an HDR display. It does not refer to HDR rendering. Games released before 2017 have no support for HDR output, unless it was patched in later or enabled through the use of a third-party mod.Windows 10 v1703 ("Creators Update") or later as well as a HDR compatible graphics card, connection, and display are required in order to actually be able to show HDR content inside of only a window. Refer to the game-specific articles for details on how to enable HDR support. Applications running in fullscreen mode do not rely on Windows but can use the graphics card drivers and proprietary APIs to bypass the OS.Note that Windows 10 v1803 ("April Update") and later performs automatic tone mapping of SDR content when HDR is enabled, which is not the same as if the game natively supported HDR output. To see if that tone mapping feature is being used, play around with the Display settings > HDR and WCG settings > Brightness for SDR content while the game is running in a window. If the brightness of the game changes then it outputs in SDR and does not support HDR output natively in window mode. However if the brightness does not change then the game properly outputs in HDR.See High dynamic range (HDR) for more information. This list is generated automatically. Before adjusting, make sure you have set the TV settings correctly. Adjust HDR Peak Brightness using the table below:

The Brightness slider  is the midpoint setting i.e. you can shift the priority towards dark or light, but it is recommended to stick to a balanced middle average.

Hey guys. For some reason, I canget get the brightness/HDR settings right for this title. I’m on a Sony X930E, and the game seems washed out (no other title does this, so it’s definitely my graphics settings in the options). Anyone want to just let me know where the sweet spot is for them? Obviously not all TVs are the same with this, but if I get some answers I can try some different settings. Thanks!

It's not your tv it's the game itself. It isn't the greatest example oh HDR I've ever seen although sometimes it looks nice. It looks kinda washed out for me sometimes and I'm using Samsung Q8F. I messed with the luminosity slider a bit but I left brightness at default.

I have the same issue with Destiny 2 on my Sony , no matter what settings I use the game always looks a bit washed out or has a white film over it.

This is the first game with HDR that I can't get to look right either.

Same for me. I have both sliders up to 100 and it's manageable. Other game's HDR (destiny 2, detroit, spiderman) look great with brightness at default, so I dunno what's up.

The luminosity slider shouldn't be maxed fyi you should have the main rectangle white and the logo should still have some black on it.

The second the main rectangle changes to white stop.

The HDR setting is to show off the whites and blacks that is what the slider is trying to show you.

I can't get the main rectangle to full white. The logo is still whiter than the rectangle at the HDR Luminance at max.

It might be your tv's HDR settings aren't good. My luminance setting for this game is maybe a few clicks to the right. I don't think you should have it maxed out. Regardless it isn't gonna make much of a difference to the look anyways as I've messed around with the setting quite a bit.

I leave it in the middle. It doesn't seem to make much difference, anyway. My TV is a 55" LG OLED.

it looks very dull, doing it that way, i left the bottom slider close to max but not full way, it's more vibrant that way.

Loot Boxes, more Loot Boxes, Microtransactions, Battle Royale, that will be 300 mill per second please...
