Stouffers Frozen French Bread Pizza cooking instructions

But looks can be deceiving, as our previous sampling of Stouffer’s pizza showed. The cheese portion tends to be exaggerated considerably. The only real way to vouch for the quality of one of these frozen pizzas is to cook one up and try it — so that’s exactly what we did.

One box contains two pizzas, and each comes individually wrapped so you can eat just one at a time without too much hassle.

There are two different ways you can cook these. The first is the simpler version: simply preheat your oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit, then toss a pizza on a cookie sheet and bake for about 24 minutes.

The second method is the softer-crust method, and it’s a bit more complex. For this one, you’ll want to preheat the oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit. When the oven is done preheating, stick one pizza into the microwave and heat it for a minute and a half, then toss it into the oven (on a cookie sheet) for about six minutes. This method may be more complicated, but it’s ultimately the quicker of the two.

Since there are two pizzas in a package, we decided to try both cooking methods. First, we went for the simple version. Out popped a super-crispy French bread pizza.

In fact, after cooking this for the full 24 minutes, we think it was much too crispy. The edges are pretty hard, and even though the center remains soft, it also becomes kind of damp and soggy.

We do enjoy a softer crust, so of course we were curious about how one of these pizzas would turn out using the softer-crust method. As it turns out, our second pizza came out much closer to the sort of pizza we love.

You can see in the image above that the coloration is different on the second pizza. We’re still not sure we’d use the word soft for this crust, but it’s less crispy than the other version we cooked. However, the consistency had a slightly rubbery tinge to it, which we definitely wouldn’t say about our first pizza’s crust.

As we pointed out toward the beginning of this review, these pizzas tend to contain less cheese than the package advertises. That’s true here, as each pizza contains a sprinkling of cheese that doesn’t even cover the full top surface. (Stouffer’s does make an extra-cheese version of their French bread pizzas for those looking to up that cheese factor.)

However, the pepperoni content is more generous than we expected — there’s plenty here for pepperoni enthusiasts to enjoy. This pepperoni is a true meat medley, as it contains chicken, pork, and beef. That’s a lot of animals for a single meat product. It ends up tasting pretty rich, and we like that. If you use the crispier cooking method, the edges get a bit crispy too, so that’s something to consider when you’re choosing a cooking method.

The flavor of the sauce is perfect, though we think these pizzas could use more of it. That crust is especially thick, so a bit more sauce would really let that shine.

A single pizza contains 400 calories (180 from fat). This isn’t too bad, though we’d say this is out of the range of the diet-friendly. This does contain 950 mg of sodium, which is quite a lot, so you’ll want to be careful if you’re trying to keep your sodium levels low.

Stouffer’s Pepperoni French Bread Pizzas don’t turn out like the ones on the box. There’s just not enough cheese for them to get that thick, melty look in the package photo. Plus, neither cooking method will get you a perfect pizza. Still, these taste pretty good. They’re not as good as, say, a DiGiorno frozen pizza or even an Amy’s pizza, but they’ll do in a pinch.

Bake the pizza for 18 to 22 minutes or until the cheese melts thoroughly.

Quicker Cooking Instructions

Turn on the oven and preheat it to 475 degrees with a small baking tray in the center of the oven.

Put the pizza on a microwave-safe plate and thaw it on “High” power for 90 seconds.

Put the pizza on the preheated baking tray in the center of the oven. Bake it for 5 to 10 minutes or until the cheese melts and the crust browns around the edges.
