Support for families of prisoners QLD

Free transport is provided to all Qld prisons. When you book your visit at the Centre ask the visit staff for contact details about the free transport service for that Centre. Tell the staff you need to catch the free bus. They should book your visit to fit in with our transport service so do tell them you need to use our bus.

PTG advice and support: It is not easy to visit at a Correctional Centre. There are many rules and processes you must abide by. We can advise you on how to manage this. Tals to us about it when you book your seat with us.

My son needs legal advice:

Legal Aid representatives visit all Centres on a regular basis. The person needs to let a staff member know they want to see the rep. This also applies to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service – ATSILS.

Prisoners Legal Service is also available.

What isvideo-conferencing?This may be available if you are not able to visit due to distance/remoteness. The inmate must apply for video-conferencing to happen.

How often can I write to my partner/son/daughter when they are in prison? You can send as many letters as you like. Please note that all mail will be opened and searched before it is given to the prisoner.

My son/daughter needs support inside prison:We recommend Centacare Prisoner Services. Phone them on 3846 7577. They can get a chaplain to visit the person incarcerated and also provide other information. Chaplains are a great support to prisoners.

Sentence management:  These workers are responsible in the prison to assist the prisoner with planning support needs before after you leave the Centre. The prisoner needs to get in touch with Sentence Management.
