What does Texas A and stand for?What does "A&M" stand for? Agricultural and Mechanical, originally, but today the letters no longer explicitly stand for anything. When Texas A&M was opened on Oct. 4, 1876 as the state's first public institution of higher education, it was called the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, or "A&M" for short.
What military branch is Texas A & M?Although A&M commissions cadets into all five branches of service — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard — most of them are commissioned through the three ROTC programs — Army, Navy (with a Marine Corps option) and Air Force.
