This comprehensive handbook of mathematical and programming techniques for audio signal processing will be an essential reference for all computer musicians, computer scientists, engineers, and anyone interested in audio. Designed to be used by readers with varying levels of programming expertise, it not only provides the foundations for music and audio development but also tackles issues that sometimes remain mysterious even to experienced software designers. Exercises and copious examples (all cross-platform and based on free or open source software) make the book ideal for classroom use. Fifteen chapters and eight appendixes cover such topics as programming basics for C and C++ (with music-oriented examples), audio programming basics and more advanced topics, spectral audio programming; programming Csound opcodes, and algorithmic synthesis and music programming. Appendixes cover topics in compiling, audio and MIDI, computing, and math. An accompanying DVD provides an additional 40 chapters, covering musical and audio programs with micro-controllers, alternate MIDI controllers, video controllers, developing Apple Audio Unit plug-ins from Csound opcodes, and audio programming for the iPhone. The sections and chapters of the book are arranged progressively and topics can be followed from chapter to chapter and from section to section. At the same time, each section can stand alone as a self-contained unit. Readers will find The Audio Programming Book a trustworthy companion on their journey through making music and programming audio on modern computers. FREE delivery January 25 - February 2. Product descriptionReviewI particularly like the way in which the authors treat Csound both as a tool and as a computer program whose internals are worthy of study and understanding. Again, the material here should be useful to experienced programmers who are just beginning with digital audio, as well as to those with a good understanding of digital sound who want to learn more about C programming. 'Paul LaFollette, Computing Reviews About the AuthorRichard Boulanger is Professor of Electronic Production and Design at the Berklee College of Music and editor of The Csound Book- Perspectives in Software Synthesis, Sound Design, Signal Processing, and Programming (MIT Press, 2000). Top reviews from AustraliaThere are 0 reviews and 0 ratings from Australia Top reviews from other countries5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to audio programming. Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 16 February 2013 Verified Purchase This book is an excellent introduction to those who want to find out how to write audio software. The topics covered are really fascinating, it covers such things as the format of audio files, how to generate simple syths, to how to generate complex audio software. Truly unique, a must for serious (or seriously fanatical) audio software developers. The book does spend some time trying to explain C programming to novices. However, being a veteran C programmer, I found this an enjoyable read: the examples focus on audio programming, not just C "Hello World" examples. I do believe some programming concepts may be a bit tough for novices to grasp though: in which case some other introduction to C programming should also be sought, along with this excellent reference. 2.0 out of 5 stars The book so far is excellent but pretty depressing that the kindle version doesn't seem ... Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 29 June 2017 Verified Purchase The book so far is excellent but pretty depressing that the kindle version doesn't seem to come with the DVD content. In my experience this would usually be available from a link inside the book. This is in no way made clear and on the MIT Press website an ebook is available with the extra content which I would have rather paid more for than this as now I have to buy the book again. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ! just simple writing Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 24 May 2013 Verified Purchase Excellent Plainly written , no nonsense C programming with a great introduction. The Audio File formats programming were a revelation. Although I have used C for several Years
, the introduction shone an oblique light on the language. 5.0 out of 5 stars A really good primer Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 21 July 2019 Verified Purchase A really useful primer, but also check out titles by Will Pirkle for a great framework to work with for C++ development of audio plugins. 5.0 out of 5 stars Quite an expensive book but I'm very happy with Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 14 March 2018 Verified Purchase I bought this mainly for the sections on MIDI and MIDI programming. Quite an expensive book but I'm very happy with it |
