Was Boba Fett Chapter 7 the finale?

Seven weeks later, we are turning to the final chapter of The Book of Boba Fett. Will there be more to this book after the season finale or will the book be closed for good? That remains to be seen. What we do know is that there’s plenty of unfinished business yet to be resolved in this week’s finale. Will Boba Fett and Fennec Shand defeat the Pyke Syndicate and claim Mos Espa for the new daimyo? What is Cad Bane’s plan? Will Grogu choose Luke Skywalker or Din Djarin?

Basically, there’s a lot to look forward to in the Chapter 7 of The Book of Boba Fett. If you need a more in-depth refresher before sitting down to watch the finale on Wednesday, here’s what you need to know about episode 7:

When Does The Book of Boba Fett Finale Come Out?

The Book of Boba Fett episode 7 will release on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 3:01 am ET/12:01 am PT on Disney+.

If you’ve been watching the show weekly, a few things will come to a head in The Book of Boba Fett finale. Here’s a recap in chronological order of the major things that have happened this season to prepare you for the finale…

Boba Fett Escapes the Sarlacc Pit

Boba Fett’s post-Return of the Jedi saga begins exactly where you expect: with his escape from the belly of the Sarlacc, where he was doomed to be digested over a thousand years in the first act of the Original Trilogy closer. Fortunately for Boba, his Mandalorian armor is able to withstand the Sarlacc’s stomach acids, allowing him to survive for an unknown amount of time inside the monster.

When Boba finally wakes up from his fall, he uses his wrist-mounted flamethrower to burn and punch his way through the insides of the Sarlacc, digging himself out of his sandy grave through sheer force of will. It’s pretty much as Patton Oswalt’s character in Parks & Recreation predicted:

Boba Fett and the Tusken Raiders

After his escape, things only get worse for the legendary bounty hunter. Stuck in the middle of the desert, and hanging on to life by a thread, Boba is helpless to stop a group of Jawa scavengers from stealing all of his armor. The bounty hunter is left in only his jumpsuit to roast under the hot Tatooine suns.

That is, until a tribe of Tusken Raiders find him and take him prisoner. They beat and torture him, and keep him chained outside in the desert heat, until one day he saves a Tusken child from a sand monster and begins to gain their trust. The unlikely bond between Boba Fett and the Tuskens is solidified when the bounty hunter helps them stop a Pyke Syndicate train smuggling spice through their territory. Boba is welcomed as a member of their tribe, not only learning how to fight like them but earning his own Tusken robes and forging his own gaffi stick.

But Boba’s past actions have terrible consequences for his new family. You see, in order to stop that Pyke train, Boba first had to steal a whole bunch of speeder bikes from a Nikto biker gang and teach the Tuskens how to ride them. Those same bikers later come back for revenge and slaughter the entire Tusken tribe. What’s unclear is if those bikers were secretly acting under orders of the Pykes…or if they were the scapegoats for the real perpetrator of the massacre: Cad Bane. More on that in a second.

Meeting Fennec Shand, Stealing Back the Firespray Gunship, and Killing the Sarlacc

Boba, once again on his own, rides a bantha through the desert and discovers Fennec Shand, who is dying in the sand after her encounter with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian season 1 episode, “The Gunslinger.” Boba saves her by taking her to a mod shop, where a surgeon who specializes in cybernetic modifications replaces her guts with machinery. Our beloved Fennec lives to fight another day!

Fennec returns the favor by helping Boba steal back his Firespray gunship from Jabba’s Palace, now the domain of the Hutt’s former Twi’lek majordomo, Bib Fortuna. They barely make it out of the palace alive, but teamwork makes the dream work. The duo next use one of the gunship’s seismic charges to kill the Sarlacc once and for all, and then they chase down the bikers that killed Boba’s Tusken family, shooting them down one by one.

Although Fennec prefers to operate solo, she accepts Boba’s offer to help him build a new criminal empire. Their days of working for other crime lords are over.

Boba Fett Kills Bib Fortuna and Takes Over Jabba’s Palace

In The Mandalorian season 2, we watch as Boba Fett finally recovers his old armor after helping Din fight off a battalion of Imperial stormtroopers on the Jedi planet Tython. Fully geared up and with a new group of pals, Boba helps Din rescue Grogu from the clutches of Moff Gideon. But that’s just a side quest for the former bounty hunter.

After their time with Din, Boba and Fennec return to Tatooine, march into Jabba’s Palace, and kill everyone inside, including the cowardly Bib Fortuna, who was never going to be able to hold that throne for long.

Boba Fett, Now the Daimyo of Mos Espa, Is Challenged by the Hutt Twins and the Pyke Syndicate

We finally arrive in the present! Boba has taken over as the new daimyo (crime lord) of Mos Espa, but he quickly learns that it takes more than a fancy title to rule Tatooine’s criminal underworld. Jabba’s former captains have split up into separate gangs and claim different territories in the city. Meanwhile, shady mayor Mok Shaiz has basically surrendered his city to an even more powerful criminal organization.

But before the Pyke Syndicate invade the city, Boba and Fennec first have to deal with a challenge from a pair of Hutt Twins, Jabba’s cousins, who have come all the way from Nal Hutta to claim what is rightfully theirs. They want Mos Espa and the palace for themselves, and they’re willing to go to war with Boba to get what they want. When Boba refuses to move aside, they send Wookiee bounty hunter Black Krrsantan to kill the daimyo while he’s healing inside a bacta tank. With the help of a group of augmented teen criminals who ride colorful Vespas through the city, Boba and Fennec are able to take down Krrsantan, imprisoning him in their dungeon.

The Hutt Twins return, but this time it’s to broker peace. They’re no longer interested in Tatooine now that they’ve heard the Pykes are coming to take over the planet, and they renounce their claim to Jabba’s throne. Instead, they gift Boba a baby rancor — to be trained by Danny Trejo — as a show of good will. Boba quickly becomes friends with the rancor and asks the trainer if he can teach him how to ride the beast — a moment we’ll likely finally get to see in the finale.

Boba and Fennec will need all the help they can get after a ship carrying an army of Pykes lands in Mos Espa to begin mining operations on the planet once again. The daimyo holds a meeting to try and convince Jabba’s former captains to join him in defending the planet from the Pykes, but they decline. So Boba and Fennec have to look elsewhere for muscle…

The Mandalorian, the Darksaber, and His New Ship

Enter Din Djarin, who is now the rightful wielder of the Darksaber, and therefore the true heir to the throne of Mandalore. But he’s not quite there yet. First, he just wants to rejoin his tribe after giving little Grogu to Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Din really misses his adopted son, but perhaps finding his Mandalorian family will help ease the pain.

His reunion with the Armorer and grumpy Paz Vizsla goes well at first. The Armorer not only helps him train with the Darksaber but also forges him a gift for Grogu out of the beskar spear he acquired from Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian.

Then things go south. Paz, being a descendant of Tarre Vizsla, the Mandalorian who forged the Darksaber millennia ago, challenges Din for the weapon and the right to rule Mandalore. Their duel ends with Din besting Paz but he’s also being banished from his tribe as an “apostate” after he admits he took off his helmet and revealed his face for Grogu — a major no-no among this extremist sect of Mandalorians. In order to redeem himself with his tribe, he’ll have to travel back to Mandalore to perform a ritual inside a sacred mine.

But first Din needs a new ship after the Razor Crest was destroyed. He travels to Tatooine (because of course) at the behest of mechanic Peli Motto, who says she’s found a new ride for the bounty hunter. The ship is revealed to be none other than a Naboo N-1 starfighter, just like the ones from The Phantom Menace.

Once the ship is all fixed up and Din is ready for his next adventure, Fennec shows up in Peli’s garage to ask for the bounty hunter’s help. Din agrees to help his friends take down the Pykes, but first he needs to complete another task…

Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Grogu’s Training

No, not to find that mine on Mandalore. Din needs to visit his beloved son first and deliver the present the Armorer forged for him. Little Grogu has become the first student of Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi academy and is reconnecting with the ways of the Force.

When Din arrives on the faraway planet, he is greeted by R2-D2 (who is just some droid to Mando). Our favorite astromech leads Din to reunite with Ahsoka Tano who talks him out of seeing Grogu, as it would only lead to more conflict inside the little Baby Yoda. Din leaves without seeing Grogu, leaving the present behind for Ahsoka to deliver to the padawan.

Luke and Ahsoka also finally share a scene together. Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice tells Luke he reminds her so much of his father. The Clone Wars fans still can’t believe it.

Later, sensing that his student might not actually want to go through with his Jedi training, Luke offers Grogu a choice: he can either wield Yoda’s old lightsaber and follow the path of the Jedi or return to the Mandalorian by accepting the gift — beskar chain mail — Din brought him. It’s possible we’ll learn Grogu’s choice in The Book of Boba Fett finale!

Cad Bane and Cobb Vanth

Meanwhile, once upon a time on Tatooine, the marshal of Mos Pelgo (now renamed Freetown) is laying down the law. Cobb Vanth returns to stop the Pykes from running spice in his jurisdiction. When the smugglers don’t heed his warning and pull their blasters on him, Cobb makes quick work of them.

That’s going to come back to bite Cobb, though. Later, Din pays the marshal a visit to ask for his people’s help in the fight against the Pykes in Mos Espa, explaining that what affects the big cities will also hurt the rest of the planet. But before Cobb can march his men to Mos Espa, ruthless bounty hunter Cad Bane shows up to make the people of Freetown a counter offer. If they choose to stay out of it, no harm will come to their own.

Cobb refuses to bow down to Cad’s demands and pays the price. Cad shoots him down in a duel that might be Cobb’s last…

All roads lead back to Mos Espa and the final battle between the daimyo and the Pyke Syndicate. More importantly, the fight will likely feature several bounty hunters trying to kill each other in a massive shootout, a scene Star Wars fans have been waiting for since the galaxy’s biggest scum were first introduced on the bridge of a Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back. We can’t wait!
