History of First Bank Texas

The First Family of Community Banking history began with the acquisition of First National Bank of Baird (established in 1885) by First Baird Bancshares, Inc. in 1981.  First National Bank of Weatherford, the oldest National Charter in Texas, was established in 1880 and was acquired by First Baird Bancshares, Inc in 1993.  First National Bank in Munday was acquired in 1997, the branch in Stamford in 2000, the branch in Haskell in 2002, and First National Bank of Mid-Cities in 1998.

To better meet the needs of our customers, First National Bank of Baird opened a banking office in Clyde, Texas during 1991 and Abilene in 1995 with three locations strategically positioned to serve the entire city in order to meet the banking needs of our customers.

In 2012, the Banks in Abilene, Baird, Munday, Haskell, Stamford, and Mid-Cities were merged to do business as First Bank Texas.  Grapevine opened in 2016 to broaden our demographics to an area that was growing quickly within the Metroplex.

First National Bank of Weatherford opened Hudson Oaks in 2017, and the Santa Fe location in Weatherford in 2019 to expand the options to serve our customers.

In 2021, First Bank Texas merged into First National Bank of Weatherford.  All locations will do business as First Bank Texas.  While the names have changed to First Bank Texas, the same folks are right there in your hometown making local decisions to meet the financial needs of your family and business.

First Bank Texas is a home-town bank with directors, officers, and employees who are committed to serving the community in which they work and live. Knowing customers by name and being eager to serve their needs is important in developing quality relationships. At First Bank Texas, we are committed to the tradition of providing the same superior service with a warm and friendly smile that you’ve come to expect.  In addition, we make our own decisions and we don’t ask you to call an 800 number nor do we ask you to call anyone outside of the state to help you with any decision.
