Notes

This is a rather long questline, but if you follow these nine steps, you will be able to get not only Ranni's quest completed, but also pick up great rewards and powerful items along the way. Check the detailed walkthrough for each one of the nine steps to find out where you need to go and what you have to do to complete everything the right way.

Step 1: Where to find Ranni and how to start her quest

Ranni the Witch’s quest starts by speaking with her atop Ranni’s Rise at Caria Manor in northwest Liurnia.

She will first tell you to meet all her loyal subjects including Preceptor Seluvis, War Councilor Iji, and Blaidd the Half-Wolf. Initially, each of these subjects can be found as phantoms in the lower levels of Ranni’s Rise, and you’ll need to speak to each of the phantoms before you can leave. Then, you’ll also need to meet them at their physical locations before Ranni’s quest can continue.

Step 2: Meet Ranni’s Subjects In-Person

After speaking with Ranni, Preceptor Seluvis can be found at Seluvis’ Rise, which is just south of Ranni’s Rise at Caria Manor. Seluvis can also help you begin Sorceress Sellen’s questline if you haven’t already met her.

War Councilor Iji can be found reading or smithing next to the Road to the Manor Lost Grace just south of Caria Manor.

Blaidd the Half-Wolf can be found in Siofra River after speaking with Ranni, but before that, he can be found howling at Mistwood Ruins in eastern Limgrave. In order to talk to him at Mistwood Ruins, you’ll need to talk to Merchant Kalé after traveling to the ruins where he’ll teach you the Finger Snap gesture.

Once you’ve met all 3 of her subjects in-person Ranni will inform you that she requires a special item that can be found in Nokron, Eternal City.

Step 3: Defeat Starscourge Radhan

In order to access Nokron, Eternal City, you’ll need to defeat Starscourge Radhan in southeast Caelid.

This desert arena is accessible via a teleporter at Redmane Castle. Defeating Radhan will open the way to Nokron via a new crater found just south of Mistwood Forest in Limgrave. If you need help, read up a bit on how to defeat Bosses in Elden Ring.

Step 4: Retrieve the Fingerslayer Blade in Nokron

Once you have dropped down into the crater in Nokron, you’ll need to make your way through the Eternal City to the Ancestral Forest Lost Grace.

From there, you can drop down onto the roof of a building in Night’s Sacred Ground.

Your goal is to reach the bottom level by jumping from roof to roof. Use the items and enemies as a guide for where to go the chest containing the Fingerslayer Blade is located beneath the giant throne seen in the above picture on the left.

Once you have obtained the Fingerslayer Blade, you may want to wait to give it to Ranni because Preceptor Seluvis will die as soon as you give her the blade.

Make sure you have completed Seluvis’ quest (including giving him the Amber Starlight from Atlus Plateau) if you want to get the Magic Scorpion Ring.

Step 5: Carian Study Hall

In return for giving her the Fingerslayer Blade, Ranni will give you the Carian Inverted Statue, which can be used to invert the Carian Study Hall, which is located along the eastern edge of Liurnia south of the Church of Vows.

If you haven’t visited there yet, I recommend going through the Study Hall first normally so you can grab all the items. Then, return to the entrance and place the Carian Inverted Statue on the altar and go through the Carian Study Hall again.

Once you reach the end, you’ll be able to reach the Divine Tower of Liurnia where you’ll find the Cursemark of Death upon Ranni’s original body. It is unclear if this step is actually required to progress through Ranni’s quest.

Step 6: Find, pick up and talk to Ranni the Doll

Renna’s Rise should now be unsealed. At the top, there is a portal that takes you to Ainsel River where you can pick up Ranni the Doll. Once you’ve gotten the doll, sit down at the Ainsel River Main Lost Grace where you should see a prompt to talk to the doll.

After selecting the prompt 3 times, she’ll tell you to defeat the Baleful Shadow. Head past the Nokstella Waterfall Basin Lost Grace towards the Lake of Rot and you should come across the enemy you seek.

Ranni should give you the Discarded Palace Key, which can be used to unlock the chest at the Raya Lucaria Grand Library where Rennala is. You can wait until after you’ve defeated Astel to go open the chest if you prefer.

You’ll receive the Dark Moon Ring, which you’ll need soon.

Side-note: Defeating Renalla will grant you the ability to respec in Elden Ring. Resetting and reallocating your stats is done through a consumable item – Larval Tear. And I just so happen to have a great guide to show you all Larval Tear Locations in Elden Ring!

Step 7: Defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

Return to the Lake of Rot, igniting all the flame pillars along the way so you can access the Grand Cloister. At the end of the Grand Cloister, you’ll be taking a coffin ride down the rotfall. Make sure you’re ready to fight the boss. There won’t be another Lost Grace down there, only one of those little Statues of Marika.

Once you’ve defeated Astel, you’ll need to retrieve the Dark Moon Ring from the Raya Lucaria Academy Library if you haven’t already. Otherwise, you should be able to immediately head past where you fight Astel and take the elevator up to the Moonlight Altar.

Step 8: Moonlight Altar

There’s a bit of stuff to do up on the Moonlight Altar, but all you need to do to progress Ranni’s quest is head to the Cathedral of Manus Celes. You can fight Glintstone Dragon Adula if you want, or you can run past her.

There will be a hole inside the cathedral that you’ll need to drop down through.

At the bottom of the hole, you’ll find Ranni’s body and a prompt to use the Dark Moon Ring. Do it and you’ll complete Ranni’s quest, receive the Dark Moon Legendary Greatsword, and unlock the ability to do the Age of the Stars.

After you complete Ranni’s quest, you can get the Snow Witch armor set from Renna’s Rise. If you are interested in collecting more Elden Ring Armor Sets, this is the guide you are looking for!

Step 9: Age of the Stars Ending

Once you’ve beaten the final boss of the game, there will be a summon sign on the ground where you can summon Ranni.

Doing so will trigger the Age of the Stars ending and grant the Age of the Stars achievement. Congratulations!
