What do you do with grass bales fs19?

This chapter focuses on properties and ways of getting grass, hay and silage in Farming Simulator 19. Each of these goods has its usage in animal husbandry. However, you can also use them to get a bit of money without too much work.

Tip: hay, straw, grass and silage bales can be purchased at the Shop - after that you can start animal husbandry.

Grass

NOVACAT mower system.

You need a mover to collect grass. You can choose from a few models that work at different levels: Pottinger Novacat X8 ED and Novacat 301 ED are the best choice. Thanks to that you can mow three belts at the same time.

Two KUHN mowes used at the same time.

KRONE BiG M 450 mower.

You can also use KUHN GMD 4411 mower and attach it to the front and the back (you will mow two belts, leaving one narrow in the middle of them) - this is a much cheaper solution. You can also decide to purchase KRONE BiG M 450. This vehicle is really expensive, but it isn't that much better than a good tractor with the first mowers mentioned here - in theory, KUHN GMD 4411 moves a bit faster, but it can't reach full speed on a small and/or uneven field.

Perfectly evened grass belts - now, you will collect them faster.

Rake up grass before you collect it. The Windrowers category in the Shop has machines with varying width - use them to rake up a few rows into one. Thanks to that, you will spend less time by driving a loading machine.

You need a loading wagon to collect grass belts - it works just like a regular semi-trailer. However, it allows you to pick up hay, grass or straw and fill loading space. Using a baler is your second option. A grass bale (capacity of 4,000l) can be transported or wrapped - this will create silage.

1. Tip 1: you can sow grass with a seeder (grass grows really fast) or you can collect grass that grows on your parcel.
2. Tip 2: you don't have to sow grass the second time.
3. Tip 3: you don't have to collect grass after you mow it. Let new grass grow. Then, mow it - you will collect them in one go. Don't overdo it - you can have problems with using a machine when the grass forms a large pile.

Grass can also be collected with a forage harvester.

Hay

Grass won't wither until you use tedders on it.

Hay is withered grass. Use Tedders to get it - the available models differ only in their width. This machine scatters grass allowing it to wither - grass that wasn't run over with tedders won't turn into hay. Use Windrowers on hay. After that, you can collect hay with a baler or an auger wagon.

A hay loft.

Hay can be stored in a hay loft build on your parcel. Place this building near an animal pen.

Silage

You can sell silage by visiting a special tank in the Biogas Plant.

Silage is fermented grass. You can get money out of it - sell it at the selling point or by visiting the Biogas Plant. Besides money, the Biogas Plant will also give you digestate - a natural fertilizer. However, the only way to use a Biogas Plant is to purchase the parcel with this building. Another usage for silage is to feed it to your cows. Silage can be obtained in two ways: by keeping it in a covered silo or by wrapping a grass or hay bale.

Getting silage from a silo - put grass, hay or chaff (you can get it only by using a special combine) in a silo. You can find silos near a Biogas Plant (available after purchasing). The game also gives you the option to purchase a silo from the Shop - place it on your parcel.

Use leveler to level silage in a silo.

Once you fill a silo with enough silage, prepare for tamping. Simply drive on it with any vehicle until the bar on the left reaches 100%. You can make things easier for you by purchasing a leveler.

Once you are done, leave your vehicle and cover the silage. This starts the fermentation process which lasts around 24 hours. Remove the cover from the silo - your silage is ready. Collect it with any front loader with a shovel or with a special attachment - forks. This attachment is less versatile but has more capacity. Silage can be stored on almost every semi-trailer.

1. Important: you can't use a silo to get a new batch of silage until you empty the tank.

This machine collects and wraps bales at the same time.

The second method to get silage is to collect grass. Use any baler to crate bales. Then, use KUHN SW 4014 wrapper to wrap every bale. Wait about 24 hours - every bale should now contain silage. KUHN FBP 3135 can create bales and wrap them at the same time.

1. Tip 1: it doesn't matter whether your bales are cylindrical or cubic. However, cylindrical bales are easier to load up and transport. Also, only cylindrical bales can be loaded with a load wagon.
2. Tip 2: the amount of silage is the same as grass/hay/chaff you have stored in a silo/bale.
3. Tip 3: you can keep mixing a silo's content until you cover it.
