What is the most important stat for a warlock Destiny 2?

Warlocks are a character class in Destiny 2 that can become incredibly powerful when they are equipped with the right gear and build perks. The biggest challenge many people will have is finding out which are the best stats to focus on when working toward a warlock that can survive some of the more punishing raids and events that Destiny 2 has to offer.

The overall system of gear stats in Destiny 2, is not that complicated but it is something that people often ignore. When starting out, the rush is to get to a certain light level and in order to reach this, people will often discard their lower light level gear in exchange for something higher, not realizing that the item they just discarded had far better stats and was benefitting their build much better than the new item with a higher light level.

Since you are reading this article, you are likely in a place where you understand the importance of light level and how to increase it, but also understand that gear stats matter a lot. The section below will explain the best stats for a warlock character to focus on.

Best Stats To Max Out For Warlocks

Gear stats for Warlocks focus on the same core stats that work for Titans. Unlike the best gear stats for hunters, the best stats for a warlock are the same for both PvE and PvP, this makes life really easy as you will not need to work toward two separate sets of gear to be able to do well in both game modes.

Gear Stats For Warlocks (PvE)

  • Resilience – Increases the amount of damage you can absorb.
  • Recovery – Increases movement speed and max jump height
  • Discipline – Increases the recharge speed of your grenade

Gear Stats For Warlocks (PvP)

  • Resilience – Increases the amount of damage you can absorb.
  • Mobility – Increases movement speed and max jump height
  • Recovery – Increases health recharge.

Finding High Stat Warlock Gear

Now that you know what to look for, you need to figure out how to get your hands on it. Any piece of armour you pick up will have a chance to be perfect, but there are things you can do to increase the odds of getting a piece of gear with the stats that you want.

This video will cover the entire process and explain a huge amount of information to you in the process. I highly recommend you check this video out to learn more.

I usually run top tree Voidlock, and Nez is my go-to exotic. My usual setup was two void weapons and Bad Juju or Exit Strategy (all weapons Masterworked).

What I generally looked for in stats was 100 discipline and as much recovery as I could get.

Why discipline instead of intellect? Because I've got a fondness for overcharged Axion Bolts. The grenade is brutal combined with a (now working) Bloom and it lets me save my Nova Bomb for when it matters the most.

I have discipline mods on everything, double dynamo on my artifact, and Breach Resonator on my robes.

This setup gives me a new 'nade in 30 sec. if I'm simply standing there. If I'm killing things it can be nearly instant. Masterworked orbs keep my super up, and if I'm running sword, I don't even have to chase them down.

Just FYI, I've been having a lot of fun this season also running top/bottom tree Stormcaller with Crown of Tempest and the Masterworked Trinity Ghoul. I still keep the grenade focus, especially with top tree. It meshes great with the Arc Web perk.

Building your character is a very important aspect of Destiny 2. Yes, you can focus on playing the game without much thought, but you won't be able to make much progress if you don't have an appropriate build for your character. Here's a breakdown of the major stats and mods that you need to consider while building your character.

Destiny 2 Class-wise stat breakdown

Hunter

Hunters in Destiny 2 are known for their invisibility. In fact, most PvP games during the Season of the Risen have a couple of invisible hunters running around all the time. And in order to have a quick cooldown on your invisibility, you will have to focus on the Mobility stat of your character. It's important that you have at least 90 or above on mobility. Not only will you be able to move fast with a high mobility stat, but you will also be able to get invisible quicker.

The second stat to focus on would be your Recovery. Hunters are known to be glass cannons. So you might not be able to take a lot of hits, but you can definitely go invisible and hide till you recover. Hence, having a high recovery is important. It's good to get this up to 100 as well, but if you can't, having a 70-80 Recovery is recommended.

You could focus on getting some points into your Intellect stat as well. The higher your Intellect, the quicker your super regenerates. So try having a score of 60-70 on your Intellect and you should be able to get that super in quick. However, with a Kinetic Siphon mod, you could start generating Orbs of Power when killing enemies with your kinetic weapons. And every time you pick up an Orb of Power, you recover super energy. Thus, you needn't really focus on the Intellect stat that much.

Mods

The first mods you would want to consider are the Mobility Armorer mod or the Recovery Armorer mod for your Ghost. With these mods, you'll receive gear with a high Mobility or high Recovery, depending upon the mod you equip. Apart from this, you need to focus on the regular stat mods available on your armor pieces. Consider using these to get a stat boost for the stat you need.

Warlock

Warlocks are basically your healers but with good damage dealing capacity. Since Warlocks depend heavily on their healing/empowering rifts, it's good to have a high Recovery. It's best if you have a 100 on your Recovery but maintaining a score of 80-90 also works. Your Recovery stat score is also tied to the cooldown of your rifts, so the higher the score, the quicker the cooldown.

The second stat you would want to focus on would be your Strength stat. Having a high score on this stat reduces the cooldown on your melee ability. With the Void 3.0 rework, Void Warlocks are very popular. And the melee ability on your Warlock activates the Devour perk. With this perk active, you'll recover health for every enemy you kill.

Finally, you would want to focus on your Discipline. This is related to your grenade cooldown. It's okay if you can't maintain a very high score on your Discipline. Having a score of 50-60 is pretty decent for a Warlock build.

Mods

Apart from the regular stat mods and the Ghost mods that we've previously mentioned, you could use a Bomber mod. This mod goes into your class item, which is essentially the Bond for a Warlock. This will help you get back your grenades quicker.

Titan

Titans, as the name suggests, are tanks. Not only can a Titan absorb a lot of damage, but they can also dish out a lot of damage too. For this, you would want to focus on your Resilience stat. Having this stat at around 100 will help you get your Titan Barricade quicker.

The second stat you would want to focus on will be your Recovery. A 60-70 score on Recovery is a sweet spot. Once you've done this invest the rest of your points in your Strength stat. This will help you use your melee ability faster. Alternatively, you could also focus on your Discipline stat if you would rather have your grenades return quicker.

Mods

Once again, you would want to focus on your stat mods for a nice little stat boost. Apart from that, you could also focus on the Melee Kickstart arms mod if you want to get that melee energy quicker.

And that's all that you need to take into account while building a character in Destiny 2. But, do take note that this guide isn't set in stone. If you're new to Destiny 2, this guide should help you sail through till you have enough experience to try out other stat combinations on your characters.

Apart from the Mods, there are several class-specific exotic armor pieces in Destiny 2. Each of these exotics come with their own sets of abilities. Feel free to check them out and see which fits your playstyle the best. Good luck with the experimentation Guardian.
