What is the rarest Mew card?

Every fan of the Pokemon TCG hopes they can pull rare and valuable cards whenever they open up a booster pack. With some cards pulling in over $100,000 at auctions a lucky day could turn into a serious monetary boost. For those who have old cards hanging out in binders or boxes, it can be especially exciting to realize that they may have some serious moneymakers to sell online.

Plenty of hardcore collectors simply want to have copies of the rarest cards as well with their extreme value being a status symbol of sorts. With how rare Mew is in the games and anime, it comes as no surprise that some cards featuring it can go for quite a bit of cash. As a note, we will be sticking to cards legal to play in the Pokemon TCG for this list.

10/10 Mew EX ~ Dragons Exalted - $84.76

Mew EX

Versatile is a fantastic ability which had kept Mew EX relevant in the expanded format since its original release. It's been useful in decks featuring Garbodor and Zoroark-GX as well as with a Vespiquen and Flareon combo in recent years. The card's dominance was also incredibly apparent at the World Championships in 2018.

9/10 Mew ~ Southern Islands - $99.65

Mew Southern Island

The holographic version of this card is particularly gorgeous and sparkly even if it does make the text on the card hard to read. While there is a non-shiny version of the card that was also released in Japan, it doesn't hold the same kind of value as its prettier counterpart. This Mew may have never had any serious competitive viability but it's a card that looks particularly impressive when shown off in any collection, hence its value.

8/10 Mew ~ Holon Phantoms - $99.95

Super Psywave Mew

This version of Mew is actually a reprint of a card that had been released in the Expedition set with new art. Both versions of the card are valued at over $90.00 when sold on the secondary market but the Holon Phantoms version is worth a bit more.

There was also a special version released as part of a campaign with Meiji Chocolate that can bring in even more money as the art for the card is unique, and it had a very limited run.

7/10 Mew ex ~ Legend Maker - $120.00

Mew Legend Maker

This particular Mew card has become a serious staple of the competitive metagame in the expanded format. Its ability Versatile is often used in a Trubbish/Zoroak-GX combo or with a Vespiquen/Flareon combo to great effect. It was also used in the deck piloted by Brian Miller which placed 8th in the Pokemon World Championships back in 2018 and was a vital part of Night March decks which dominated the World Championships of 2015.

6/10 Mew ex ~ Holon Phantoms - $131.07

Mew Holon Phantom

While its ability allowed players to always have an active look at their opponent's hand, it never fit well into psychic decks at the time. As most competitive players tend to have the most popular decks memorized and keep close track of which cards have been played, it didn't come in much use competitively for that reason either. However, the art by Ryo Ueda alongside its gorgeous holographic sparkles makes it a coveted part of many trainers' collections.

5/10 Mew★δ ~ Dragon Frontiers - $378.00

Mew Star Delta

This card with the shiny version of Mew is also the only ever water-type card the Pokemon has ever had. Players only being allowed to use a single star card per deck hasn't made the card become any easier to acquire, much to the chagrin of collectors everywhere. While the market price for the card is currently around $378.00 it has sold for as much as $999.95 in the past.

Blank's Mew

Similar to the _____'s Pikachu card that was banned from competitive play, this Mew card also featured a small section where players could theoretically sign their name on the card, making it wholly original and unique to them. Of course, collectors are looking for versions where kids decided to leave that space blank.

While there are two versions of the card, the holographic ones are particularly harder to find. Still, any collectors with the less shiny versions in their hands can net upwards of $100 which is nothing to sneeze at.

3/10 Mew δ ~ Battle Road Summer - $700.00+

Mew Delta

While a version of this card with the same art was made available in Pop Series 5 and goes for a bit over $100, the version with the Battle Road Summer graphics is the one particularly coveted by collectors. These were only available to those who participated in select tournaments in Japan back in 2006 and only to those who managed to pass the preliminary rounds.

Mew ex PLAY

While there are a couple of versions of this card, the holographic version is the one that pulls in the most money when sold. These were available only in Japan to members of the Pokémon Players Club. Players that earned enough experience points during the first four seasons could get the card, with the coveted holographic version being available only during seasons three and four making it all the rarer.

Mew Art Academy Card

As a special promotion involving the Pokemon Art Academy spin-off game, fans were able to submit various pieces of art to MiiVerse with some being chosen to have a limited printing of 100 special promo cards. This particular Mew card was the only one released of the Pokemon at the time for the XY series making it particularly valuable as well. The one listing of the card on eBay valued it at $22,097.00 though it did go unsold. Even at that price, it wouldn't have broken the Pokemon record of a nearly million-dollar sale set in 2022.
