Gas stations have a finite amount of gas. Unless youre playing on Sandbox and have set gas station supplies to Unlimited.

Gas cans can be found in petrol stations, trunks of cars and garages from my experience.

You can use gas pumps at gas stations to refuel your car. After electricity off, you have to connect a generator to power the pump.

You should be able to find empty gas canisters / filled ones at gas stations. If electricity is shut off, find a generator, read a book on how to use them and wire it up to the gas station and turn it on to use the gas pumps. You do need at least a little bit of gas to operate the generator though, you can just siphon some from some unusable cars.

Description

All filling stations have at least one gas pump and convenience store. The contents of each convenience store can vary between each company. Some may contain various vehicle parts in a good condition, food and drinks, tools, literature including maps, and even a shotgun. The most valuable part of a filling station are the gas pumps, which can be interacted with either by using a gas can, or with a vehicle directly, by parking it close enough to the pump. With normal sandbox settings, each pump contains between 1000 to 14000 units of fuel.

Once the power shuts off, gas pumps can no longer be interacted with. However, a generator can be placed nearby, powering the entire station, thus allowing the gas pumps to function again.

Fossoil is the largest chain of gas stations found throughout Knox Country. Fossoil is the parent company of Gas 2 Go, another chain of gas stations. Various Fossoil company vehicles can be found throughout Knox Country. The Riverside, KY and West Point, KY Fossoil stations both have a car wash.

How do you empty the gas tank in Project Zomboid?

To siphon gas in Project Zomboid, approach a vehicle and press V to open the radial menu. If the vehicle has gas, you'll automatically see the option to siphon gasoline. Which means that if the option isn't available on the radial menu, you should look elsewhere.
