The countdown to season 2 of Netflix's Éliteis on! With a set of brand new episodes coming on September 6, you may want to brush up on what exactly happened in season 1, and—spoiler alert—who Marina's (Maria Pedraza) killer really was.

To recap, the Spanish series is about the lives of three scholarship students (Samuel, Nadia, and Christian) who are admitted to Las Encinas, the best private school in Spain, after their high school gets destroyed by an earthquake. What comes after? A a clash between the haves and the have nots of the school—one that results in Marina's murder. So let's revisit exactly how it all went down.

So how did season 1 of Élite end?

We knew that Lu (Danna Paola) and Nadia (Mina El Hammani) were battling it out for the top-of-the-class trophy, which would give the winner a scholarship to Las Encinas's campus in Florida, plus a guaranteed spot at an Ivy League college.

Spoiler alert, here's the part where we announce Marina's killer: It was Polo (Álvaro Rico), who used that exact trophy to hit Marina in the back of the head, which caused her to bleed out next to the school's pool and, you know, die. The reason he did it? He was trying to get a hold of Marina's watch, which belonged to his ex-girlfriend Carla's (Ester Expósito) dad, and which also happened to be a USB (more on that later).

And why was Pablo desperate for this watch?

Well, he murdered Marina because in his mind, he was seeking to protect Carla and her family. Apparently, the watch contained incriminating evidence against Carla and Marina's fathers and their respective businesses. It also had evidence linking them to the weak construction of Samuel, Nadia, and Christian's original high school, which is the whole reason the school was destroyed during an earthquake.

Marina, we learned, locked away a few secrets before dying.

The 16-year-old revealed to Samuel that she was HIV positive, slept with his brother Nano, and was pregnant with his child. Before her untimely death, Marina and Nano (played by La Casa de Papel's Jamie Lorente Lopez) planned to run away together.

He was actually the first one to find her bleeding out, but instead of calling the cops, he ran away and left her there—which is when Samuel saw him and assumed he was the killer. This ultimately led Samuel to point the finger at his brother when the cops interrogated him. Since Nano is on parole, he became suspect number one and eventually got arrested.

Nadia decided to go against her parents wishes.

After trying to appease her traditionally Muslim parents, Nadia told her dad she's going to enjoy her teenage years however she wants. Although he is receptive, he knows she has a good head on her shoulders and agrees to let her return to Las Encinas for the next school year.

And Guzmán went back to his old ways with Lu.

Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau) tried and failed to win Nadia over after his sister's death, and it turns out that the one person who was there for him in the aftermath was Lu. In the beginning of the show, the two were friends with benefits, but he broke it off after realizing he had genuine feelings for Nadia. Since his moves didn't work and Nadia distanced herself from him, he turned back to Lu and told her he wanted to be with her instead.

Though Polo killed Marina, Carla and Christian became accomplices.

While everyone around them was convinced that Nano is the killer, Carla made sure that Polo sticks to the alibi she came up with for him. After he struck Marina with the trophy, Polo made his way to the boys' locker room where Carla and Christian (Miguel Herrán) were having sex. The two ultimately helped him destroy any evidence of the murder.

When Samuel turns to Christian for help trying to get Nano out of jail, he simply refused and walked away.

Omar and Ander gave their relationship a shot.

Despite all the madness going on around them, Omar (Omar Ayuso) and Ander (Arón Piper) decided to give their relationship a try even if they have to keep it hidden from Omar's dad.

The last thing viewers see is the murder weapon, which we now know Polo threw in the lake behind the school. It's only a matter of time before the truth comes out, so until September 6, you'll find us re-watching season 1 all over again.
