1993 and 1994 blockbuster video game world championship

To clarify, there were a lot of game tournaments back in the day for video games. He has made mention that it was a blockbuster that had a ton of TVs set up and a bunch of people played NBA Jam and he won. The other was at a marine park and he won.

They aren't that significant in terms of major milestones. I'm sure his accomplishments in basketball are way more significant in terms of notoriety.

The whole concept of him mentioning a two time champion is probably a reference to movies like Napoleon Dynamite where one of the characters is always mentioning his past accomplishments like they were somehow significant. "Did you guys hear about how I once threw a ball 50 yards to score the game winning touchdown for my varsity high school football team?" Its those times that are long forgotten and have little bearing on the present but it's always something the person can look back on. Meanwhile, some of us roll our eyes and go "whatever gramps" and some want to hear about how he was once the greatest.

What I love about the whole intro is you have very few people who do it. This is an entertainment Avenue and we rarely see that in a twitch channel. Mostly people have a fun video to start their stream and they just get into the game play. The Doc has taken it a step further and has an opening monologue.

Herschel “Dr Disrespect” Beahm IV has often claimed during live streams that he is the “two-time” 1993-94 Blockbuster video games champion.

One of Twitch’s most popular content creators until his permanent ban in June 2020, Dr Disrespect has been streaming regularly since around November 2016. As part of his overall character, The Doc has often said that he won back-to-back NBA Jam tournaments in 1993 and 1994.

His claims have often been taken seriously by viewers, though quite a few people have struggled to prove the tournament wins in question. However, as it turns out, the popular YouTuber has clearly made up these claims as “evidence of his gaming prowess.”

Multiple Reddit posts have claimed to provide evidence of the real winners of said tournaments.

The reason Dr Disrespect refers to himself as a "two-time" world champion

The former Twitch streamer is one of the most entertaining content creators of all time. His on-camera character is a conceited gamer who often brags about his achievements.

The 39-year-old often calls his mustache "Slick Daddy" or the "Poisonous Ethiopian Caterpillar." It has created complicated back-stories that are, in truth, jokes that Dr Disrespect claims to be true while streaming.

Other parts of Dr Disrespect’s overall persona that are obviously fake are his “black mullet” wig and the “prototype Google glasses” that are supposed to have built-in LCD, LED, 1080p, 3D. It also allegedly has Sony technology built into every single lens.

Additionally, the Doc had also claimed that Google sends him a new pair “every single morning.”

Regardless of his overall persona/characteristics, Dr Disrespect’s “two-time” world champion claims have also been confirmed to be part of an overall gimmick.

Over the years, multiple Reddit posts have come up on the matter. Quite a few fans have stated that the claims about being a two-time Blockbuster champion in NBA Jam tournaments are fake. They are only a gimmick that Dr Disrespect uses to brag about his gaming prowess.

The above video shows footage from the tournament in question, along with that of the real winner. Hence, just like the glasses, the wig, and the overall arrogant character that Dr Disrespect uses for his streams, the claims about being a “two-time champion” are fake.

His favorite gaming franchise, Activision’s Call of Duty series, had not released a single game until 2003, which effectively means that the Doc could not have won any COD tournaments back then. Regardless, as the video and the posts above suggest, the Doc is not a real “two-time” world champion.

Thank You!

Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm is one of the world’s biggest streamers whose larger-than-life character and entertaining style of streaming has made him one of the most popular livestreamers around.

Before becoming a popular streamer, Beahm was a multiplayer map designer for one of the developers of the Call of Duty series, Sledgehammer Games, and was responsible for designing many of the maps in Advanced Warfare. He later made the jump to streaming full-time, creating the satirically arrogant and confident alter-ego of Dr Disrespect.

Dr Disrespect, who is often also referred to as ‘Dr D’, ‘The Doc’, or ‘The Two-Time Champion’, mainly streams himself in his fictional Champions Club playing some of the best competitive FPS games such as Valorant and Call of Duty: Warzone. He is the creator of the ‘Triple Threat Challenge’, a test of gaming skill in which he attempts to win rounds in three different battle royale or FPS titles back-to-back in as little time as possible.

The production of Dr Disrespect’s streams are far more elaborate than most top streamers and is one of the main aspects that make him stand out. During introductions, interludes, and outros in his stream, he frequently uses green screens and varying camera angles to place him in different vehicles, locations, or scenarios that all tie in with the character’s world. One of the most commonly used is in the driving seat of a red Lamborghini Diablo sportscar.

The Dr Disrespect character is focused around being the ultimate gamer and it’s not unusual to hear him bragging about his achievements, gaming skill, or even physical fitness. His brash persona often leads to him calling out other streamers and pro gamers, and also provides some eccentric reactions and bizarre moments.

In 2017, he won the Streamer of the Year award at the Esports Awards, giving a very out-of-character, emotional acceptance speech when collecting his trophy.

He then lived up to his nickname of ‘The Two Time’ by winning the award again in 2019.

On March 12, 2020, The Doc penned an exclusivity deal with the streaming platform.

Despite the deal, Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch on June 26, reportedly on a permanent basis. Neither Twitch or Dr Disrespect has confirmed why, but in an interview with PC Gamer, the Doc confirmed he will not be returning to the platform. This is still the case, even though both parties settled out of court in March 2022.

On August 6, he made his return to streaming on YouTube Gaming. A teaser of his iconic Lamborghini sat in a gas station attracted a peak audience of 330,000 – but his actual comeback stream followed the next day on August 7.

That stream attracted over half a million viewers, who piled in to hear The Doc speak on his ban. However, the streamer simply told fans he still didn’t know why he was banned and that he believes he’s done nothing to warrant it.

Since then, his popularity and persona has seen him get his own map and skin in third-person shooter Rogue Company and even write his own memoir.

Here we answer the most frequently asked questions about one of the world’s most popular and recognisable streamers, Dr Disrespect.

These companies will be paying a pretty sizeable fee to get the endorsement of such an iconic and recognisable streamer. These deals undoubtedly contribute greatly to his overall earnings, however the exact amount he is paid isn’t disclosed.

Other streams of revenue include merchandise and book sales, as well as his new development studio, Midnight Society.

When you add all of this together, you can see how over the Doc has amassed such an impressive net worth during his streaming career.

How tall is Dr Disrespect?

Dr Disrespect stands at just over two metres (6ft 8in) tall.

The towering streamer likes to make sure everyone is aware of his physical prowess and often reminds viewers both of his height and his “37-inch vertical leap.”

The centerpiece for The Two-Time’s setup is his new custom gaming PC. Put together by DigitalStorm, it contains top of the range components from a number of different manufacturers and set him back a cool $10,000 – although he does slightly exaggerate the price a tad in his reveal video below. Well, it wouldn’t be The Doc without some bravado, would it?

Dr Disrespect’s monitor is one of the best in the business: the BenQ XL2546K.

The Doc’s mouse and keyboard come from one of his newest sponsors, Roccat. For his mouse, he has the Kain 200 Aimo model, and his keyboard is the Vulcan 122 Aimo.

His iconic headset comes from another of his sponsors, Turtle Beach, with Dr Disrespect choosing the Atlas Aero model as his go-to for audio.

His gaming chair is a Maxnomic Commander S which, as you can see from the intro of the video below, he was extremely excited to receive…

Is Dr Disrespect actually the two-time?

In among Dr Disrespect’s many nicknames is one that often confuses newer viewers to his streams. He often refers to himself as ‘The Two-Time Champion’ or ‘Mr. Two-Time.’ But what is he actually champion of?

Dr Disrespect claims that he is the two-time ‘Blockbuster Video Game World Champion’ after winning back-to-back NBA Jam tournaments in 1993 and 1994. You remember those ones… right?

Although they’re achievements most wouldn’t brag about all that much, the Doc likes to often remind people of his gaming prowess and these titles are the – erm – proof of that.

1993 and 1994 blockbuster video game world championship

Speaking of proof, there is actually little to back up Dr Disrespect’s claim that he did in fact win these titles. ESPN seem to think he did, but others have found evidence to the contrary.

Dr Disrespect TV show

On December 6, 2019, Dr Disrespect announced that he had signed a deal with Skybound Entertainment to make a TV based on his character.

Skybound, who are the production company behind shows like The Walking Dead, have begun early stage talks with The Doc about what kind of approach they are going to take.

There are few details at the moment, but what we do know that it will be something of an origin story, framed around how the Two-Time rose in popularity to become the well-known celebrity streamer he is today.

In an interview given to the Washington Post on July 16, 2020, Dr Disrespect says his team “have been working really hard” on the show and that he’s “excited for the next steps.”

dr disrespect book

Dr Disrespect has released his own book. The memoir, titled Violence, Speed, Momentum, is a look into the origins of the Dr DisRespect character and includes some of his “deepest, most intimate secrets.”

He joins the likes of Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins on the very short list of streamers to have penned their own book.

Dr Disrespect controversy

With his larger-than-life personality, Dr Disrespect has been responsible for some of the funniest moments in Twitch history. However, his overconfident nature can sometimes see him cross the line into being controversial and even result in him getting banned.

At E3 2019, the Doc did his first ever IRL stream. It featured him walking around the convention meeting fans and talking to fellow gamers, developers and streamers in the usual comical fashion. Part of the stream saw the Doc enter a public bathroom at the event, where he continued to stream despite it being illegal to do so.

Twitch took action and banned his channel for two weeks. Breaking character to apologise for the incident, the man behind Dr Disrespect, Guy Beahm, said in a statement: “We [Beahm and his cameraman] became a little blind in what’s OK and what’s not OK. We had no ill intentions and I feel that was pretty obvious if you watched the entire thing.”

Dr DisRespect’s fame and divisive nature has also seen him become a target. During a stream in 2018, his house was shot at from a passing car, forcing him to drop out of character and end the broadcast. The clip of the incident was one of the most watched ever on Twitch, with upwards of 3.6 million views.

Dr Disrespect Twitch ban

Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch in June 2020. The ban is permanent, but the reason as for why he was banned remains unclear.

Champions Club,

Twitch has not notified me on the specific reason behind their decision… Firm handshakes to all for the support during this difficult time.

— Dr Disrespect (@drdisrespect) June 28, 2020

The last few minutes of Dr Disrespect’s final stream before his ban saw him act quite strange, reassuring his following that “we’ll get through this” and claiming that “life is weird right now” before cutting off his stream abruptly. However in a recent interview, he claims he had just broken character while thinking about the state of 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic and was not related to his impending ban.

While Dr DisRespect’s ban was arguably one of the biggest dramas of 2020, it appears it has reached its natural conclusion: through an out of court settlement. On March 10, Dr DisRespect posted a statement noting he had “resolved” his legal dispute with Twitch and that neither party admits to any wrongdoing. Twitch has echoed this with a similar statement.

— Dr Disrespect (@DrDisrespect) March 10, 2022

Dr DisRespect will not return to the purple platform, but it does hopefully signal the end of what’s been an utterly bizarre chapter for this larger-than-life character.

Now he can focus on his streaming over on YouTube and the development of the game his studio is putting together.

Who was the 1993 and 1994 blockbuster champion?

Two-Time. ' But what is he actually champion of? Dr Disrespect claims that he is the two-time 'Blockbuster Video Game World Champion' after winning back-to-back NBA Jam tournaments in 1993 and 1994.

Was there a blockbuster video game championship?

“In the mid-90s, at the height of the Sega / Nintendo rivalry Blockbuster held two competitions retro gamers fondly remember,” a blog post announcing the event's return read. “The Blockbuster World Video Game Championship 3 will create new memories for a new generation.”

Who was the 1994 blockbuster gaming champion?

Dr Disrespect is the most famous, dominant gamer in the history of the world. The Back-to-Back 1993–94 Blockbuster Video Game Champion, he has a powerful 6-foot-8 frame, a 37-inch vertical leap, and a wavy, gleaming mullet like black diamonds.

Is Doc really the two

And yes, he really is 6-foot-8, he really has a 38-inch vertical, and can do 360-degree dunks. He really is the two-time, back-to-back video game champion (the game was NBA Jam at Marine World, and Beahm has shown a proficiency in NBA knowledge and fandom on-stream).
