Does carpet cleaner work on fabric?

Scotchgard™ Fabric & Carpet Cleaner is intended for use on washable fabrics and fabrics approved by the manufacturer for water-based cleaning. These fabrics are generally marked “W” or “WS,” but check the manufacturer’s cleaning care and warranty information to make sure. You can use your carpet cleaner to clean your mattress, if it comes with a hand attachment. Make sure not to get it too wet.

Because of its name, many people assume that you can only clean carpets with a carpet cleaner. This is not the case, and the following is a list of some other items that can be cleaned:

1. Mattresses. Bedtime urine accidents are simple to clean with a carpet cleaner. A carpet cleaning machine is also good for removing mold, dust mites and dead human skin cells from mattresses. Just attach the hand attachment and clean thoroughly. Do not over saturate the mattress because this can result in mold spores. Make sure that you clean and dry one side of the mattress before cleaning the other side.

2. Curtains. Curtains can also be cleaned when using a portable carpet cleaner.  You can also clean them when using a machine that is equipped with a hand tool that can reach high spots.

You can clean sofa upholstery with many carpet cleaners, but you need an upholstery attachment, and for best results, an upholstery cleaning solution.

4. Car upholstery. Car stains can be removed from seats and floors with carpet cleaning machines. This is possible by using a portable machine or one that has a long cord that reaches into the garage.  You can also use the hand attachments to clean hard to reach places such as under the seats and in between seat cushions.

5. Comforters. Use carpet cleaning machines to spot clean large comforters or other types of large bedding items. Use the hand tool attachment to remove stains. Steam helps penetrate and remove stains. This method is usually more convenient than getting a rather large comforter dry cleaned.

6. Hard Floors. There are carpet cleaners that can clean multiple types of floors. They are specially designed to clean based upon the type of stain or material cleaned.  The user has the option to change the setting. Each setting ranges from a light cleaning to powerful scrubbing modes.

Carpet cleaners are designed to clean different types of things, and are not always restricted to just cleaning carpets.

They can clean mattresses, pet stains, bedding, furniture, rugs and auto upholstery. Some can even clean ceramic tile and hardwood floors. With handy little attachments and portable machines a carpet cleaner is an easy way to clean several types of surfaces.

Stains on clothing is just a part of life — between adults and kids no one is safe — and there are countless ways to try and get them out.

But one clever mum got her kids clothes sparkling and fresh again without a sauce stain in sight with a little bit of help from carpet cleaner.

She posted a video and before-and-after photos of the process in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing & Bargains UK and revealed the product she used to do it.

A mum in the UK got rid of sauce stains on her child's T-shirt in minutes. (Facebook)

Using the Dr Beckmenn Carpet Stain Remover—which you can buy in supermarkets—she achieved some incredible results.

"I was forever throwing stained clothes out due to various stain treaters not budging my sloppy child's mishaps. I had been cleaning the carpet a couple months ago when I thought about trying this on clothes… game changer! As you can see it takes pasta sauce out in seconds," she captioned the post.

"I also fill the bottle with diluted Elbow Grease when its finished and keeps my carpet by the door like new. Complete bargain compared to some of the other stain removers I've tried."

The results speak for themselves and other mums in the group were seriously impressed.

"Brilliant defo going to buy my son's school shirts always stained," commented one user.

Another added, "This is my main go to it got black school paint out of a white top!"

But others were quick to share success stories from other fabric stains and several women agreed it got marks out of fabric couches.

"Brilliant! I had an unknown stain on my sofa.... this lifted it right off," wrote one user.

Another agreed and added, "It's really good stuff it took curry sauce out of my couch!"

Of course we love a product that has a lot of uses but turns out even the empty bottle of stain remover has another use.

The UK is in the middle of winter right now, so bookmark this little hack for when the chilly weather hits us Down Under.

"When the bottle is empty, fill with warm water and it's great for de-icing the car windows," wrote one mum and it's definitely a genius hack to keep in the back of your mind.
