I believe Greases are like buffs, i don’t think you can apply it to special weapons that upgrade with somber smithstone.

Oh wait I guess I couldn't apply it since I'm using a magic falchion. It had to be a normal weapon it seems.

I believe greases can only be applied to weapons that are purely Physical damage.

For instance I could apply grease on my Broadsword when it was set to Standard or Quality, but if I use an Ash of War and set it to Sacred, where it's damage is split between both Physical and Holy, greases can no longer be used on it.

It may be possible to grease up special weapons that upgrade with somber stones IF the weapon is all physical damage type, but I'm not sure on that one.

Grease is a helpful item you can find in Elden Ring. With its help, you can enhance the potency of your weapons by coating them with grease. For many players, however, grease is just another ordinary item with no specific use or purpose. In this guide, we will show you why grease is so important, and how to use it on your weapons.

To use Grease in Elden Ring, you first need to equip it. To do so, go to Equipment and click on one of the Quick Access Slots. Doing so will take you the inventory. Here, look for the Grease you may have collected during your travels in the Lands Between.

Select the grease of your choice and select it. Doing so will add the selected grease to the quick access slot. Once equipped, you need to press the X button to apply it to your weapon. Once you do so, you will notice a small animation where your character coats their weapon with the chosen grease. And that’s it. These simple steps are all you need to apply grease to your weapons and wreak havoc.

You will be pleased to know that the game has several different types of grease. Let us check them out.
