Henry 22 lever action vs golden boy

FWIW:

I just bought my first Henry last week.. I bought the standard HT001Y (youth or "trapper" model). Actually "we" bought two, as my bride bought one (consecutive serial number) for herself at the same time.

I have always read that all lever action Henry's are the same with the exception of cosmetic differences (or octagon barrels).

Up until now I've been a dedicated Marlin model 39 fan, and I still am. I have 5 of those, and the only reason I bought a Henry is so that I could compare, for myself, the differences between the Marlin 39's and the Henry's.

My initial observations between the 5 Marlins and the sole Henry are basically:

The Marlins (at roughly twice the price) are obviously "higher overall quality"... All steel, etc., a century plus history of excellence, and a reputation for desirability in a lever action rimfire rifle.

But, even being prejudiced in favor of the Marlins I found the Henry HT001Y to be an amazing value for the price you have to pay (we paid $267.50 ea. OTD). The walnut wood is excellent, the rifle performed perfectly right out of the box, (after windage adjustment, which was easy to do) and the action is absolutely MUCH better than that of any of my 5 Marlins. (1950/1970(2)/1975/1996 models).

The action of the Henry is just, for lack of a better word, "slick"..

I know you didn't ask for this comparison, but I thought I'd share it just in case another member might be curious as to how the Henry compares, generally speaking, to the Marlin 39's.

I like my sole Henry enough that I would buy another in a heartbeat...

The warranty for the Henry rifle is absolutely amazing... Some Marlin owners always scoff at the Henry saying it won't "last a lifetime" (like the Marlin) because of the receiver coated metal, but I think, with reasonable care, they will... Additionally, even IF a Henry didn't hold up the factory would fix it free for the original owner, FOREVER, or send ya a new one.

Lots of luck getting that kind of service from the "new" Marlin/Remington Co, which can't even build good new 39A's now.

I think I'll start saving up my "play" money and buy me a fancier Henry. It won't be any better, performance wise. than my standard HT001Y, just "prettier".. (Plus, a person can never have too many guns anyway).
