Make Salisbury steak with them. Break them up and use: as a base for cottage pie, as a base for French-Canadian tourtiere, as a base for hamburger pie.

Smoosh them together into even layer on base of an oiled glass baking dish, spread layer of tomato paste, layer of sliced garlic, layer of sliced tomatoes, salt/ pepper/ oregano/ basil/ dried mint (optional but delicious), layer of peeled and sliced potatoes, butter. Bake, covered, in preheated 375 F/ 190 C oven until everything is cooked through, 40 min. Serve with chopped salad: cucumber/ tomato/ romaine lettuce/ olives.

Preheat your pan over medium-high heat. You'll be able to tell when it's hot enough by sprinkling some drops of water on it occasionally as it heats. When it's too cold, the water will just sit there and maybe slowly boil off, but when it reaches the right temperature, the drops will bounce around like little hovercraft.

Now that you've got a fairly hot pan, throw in your patties and cover the pan. It shouldn't be necessary to defrost them, but you can if you want. Cook for maybe three or four minutes, until you see juice bubbling on top of the patties. Turn down the heat a little if it starts to smoke, and turn up the heat if you don't hear a fairly vigorous sizzling sound. Once you see that juice, flip and continue cooking for another three minutes or so.

The burgers are done when they're firm and springy to the touch.

When I want to get a little fancy I will use fresh beef to make my own patties, but often times when I’m just cooking for myself or need a quick meal, I’ll have Costco 80/20 grassfed beef patties ready to go. I just want to make them the best I can.

A quick search in past posts show that it’s fine to cook them frozen and season each side right before placing on a hot oiled pan (cast iron or stainless steel), but for the best texture and taste, is it better to thaw them in the fridge beforehand? (Leave in fridge overnight), any other tips or tricks people use on a pinch to get the most out of frozen precut/made patty?

I personally like to season with salt pepper, sprinkle of sugar for quick caramelized flavor and some soy sauce if I’m eating over rice. Haven’t really tried butter/basting it, but I’m guessing that will make it a little more juicier. I don’t expect it to be as crusty and juicy as a smash burger, but any advice on hacking frozen patties would be appreciated.

So quick question. I usually cook a lot of beef. Actually that's all I cook for meat cause I have a super salmonella phobia lol I need to get over that soon so I can cook delicious chicken breasts but anyways my question.

Usually I buy ground beef but our last Costco trip my husband wanted to buy the frozen patties instead because he liked their fat content better. I told him o wasn't sure how I could make a hamburger patty into a sloppy joe or a meatloaf but I'll figure out a way to cut it up once it's cooked i suppose haha. But the thing is is that I usually let my meat sit in the fridge to thaw.

I know you can do it in the microwave or in a bowl of water at room temp but I feel safer and prefer just letting it thaw in the fridge for 2-3 days. This however does mean I don get to cook my tasty meat things for a few days. I was wondering if since the patties are smaller than a pound of ground chuck if I can just toss them in the pan to cook them up instead? I've never cooked meat from frozen before so I'm not sure of the quality of it or what to expect or if it's safe.

My girlfriend's parents bought us one of these premade boxes of food from a local church. We didn't necessarily need them to buy us food, but they did anyway. So now we have some frozen hamburger patties, but no access to a grill.

I'm sure I could nuke them and get something edible, and Im sure baking them wouldn't be horrible. But I've always been impressed at how much esoteric cooking knowledge resides quitely in these humble posts, so I'm wondering, how would r/cooking make non-grill burgers?

No need for defrosting. Throw them in a skillet with "a little" oil. Low-medium-ish heat depending on thickness.

I have cooked them straight from the freezer and they turn out ok if you just fry them in a pan on the stove. If they are really lean you might need a little oil in the pan to help them get going. Once the top starts to thaw season with whatever you like (I usually use just salt and pepper) and flip. This way they aren't super overcooked.

For the future, you can put them in your cast iron skillet and then broil them on low in the middle rack with the oven door ajar.

Having the door slightly open means the moisture will escape and they won't end up steamed. A higher rack can let grease pop up and hit the broiling elements. Dangerous.

The reason I like broiling burgers is if I have several to make at once and don't want to clean my pan between burgers. You can fit a bunch on to a pan or even a cookie sheet.

Sprinkle with salt, pepper, favorite steak or hamburger seasoning. I prefer GrillMates Montreal Steak Seasoning, but that stuff is expensive.

Heat skillet over medium heat, add some worcestershire sauce let it bubble for a few seconds and add patties. Flip after a few mins. I usually add a more worcestershire to patty before I flip. Spoon off grease as you cook if it's fatty meat.

Wife likes it so much a lot of the time we eat it san buns -- hamburger steak style -- topped with a slice of cheese, sautéed peppers and onions

Defrost them first and then cook them in a pan on the stove (or you can bake them in the oven)

Put them in the oven for about 25 minutes.

Thanks guys! That was tasty. I went with the Sp4m/wrapmasterT method, no defrosting, right into a pan on the stove. Used a little olive oil, held the pan at a long distance because I was an idiot and didn't dry it out after washing it, and let it cook until the top was almost thawed. Sprinked on some salt, pepper, and a touch of rosemary.

Put it on a bun that was a touch too small and slapped on a thick slice of cheddar, and some onions. Delish. A++ Will cook again. I was worried it'd burn to a crisp but it just had a few crunchies on the outside. The majority of it was about a medium, Id say, which is right where I like it.

Defrost a couple burgers and season them really well with salt and pepper -- a good coating of salt will allow a really nice crust to develop and will keep the burgers from sticking to the surface of your skillet.

Next, bring a large skillet up to temp over medium high heat and add burgers. Cook about 5 minutes on each side, or until a crust develops and the patties lift easily from the skillet.

At this point, depending on the thickness of the patties and your personal preference, you can toss everything into the oven and cook to the desired temperature.
