Overview

As you play on a Minecraft server, beds can be a saving grace, allowing you to respawn at a familiar location instead of somewhere unknown. With this in mind, the concept of Player vs Player and beds were combined into the Bedwars Gametype. This twist on the Skywars gamemode sees players fight across airborne platforms while trying to break the bed of other teams to prevent respawning. This normally requires configurations, but when using our pre-made gametype, all of the required worlds, files, and plugins come preconfigured for your use. With Apex Hosting, installing the Bedwars gametype is as simple as selecting a dropdown menu option, so we have created this tutorial to guide you through the steps to get started.

Server Preparation

When playing a premade server gametype, we highly suggest removing all server files ahead of time. This can prevent conflicts between plugins, worlds, and other files which can lead to crashes.

Navigate to the Apex Server Panel, then stop the server.
(Optional) If needed, backup any files through the server’s FTP.
While on the main panel page, press Reset Server Files in the left-hand menu.
In the prompt, choose to remove all server files.
Afterwards, enter reset to confirm the removal of all server files.

Bedwars Installation

While on the Apex Panel, ensure the server is still offline.
Scroll down to the Game File section, then open the dropdown.
Locate and select Bedwars from the server list.
When prompted, choose Change Version.
Afterwards, choose to use the included world, then restart the server.

Getting Started

Once the server is online with the Bedwars gametype, you can join and begin playing!

Joining the Lobby

Upon first spawning in, you will be greeted by the server lobby. This massive mountain towers above everything and can be scaled through the various tunnels that are available for exploration. Here you will find a variety of crates and vaults, allowing you to access cosmetics.

Helpful NPCs

Near the left side of the map, you will find 3 NPCs who can be interacted with for various effects. From left to right you can view the score of the top 10 players, access the crate key shop for random rewards, or access the cosmetic shop to purchase rewards directly.

Checking your Stats

Another NPC accessible on the right-hand side of the map will display your personal Bedwars stats from the server. This is beneficial to view your kill/death ratio, check your wins, or simply how many games you have participated in.

Joining a Arena

When you are ready to begin a match, make your way to the set of signs available on both sides of the lobby. To the East you will find the solo arenas, these 4 maps are playable by yourself. To the West you will find the team arenas, which will allow you to fight alongside other players to achieve victory. Select an arena to get started playing Bedwars in your desired environment!

Collecting Currency

Upon first spawning on your island, head to the back of your base to find gold and iron generated on the ground. These are some of the currencies available in-game available to purchase a variety of items. While these two ingots are used for a majority of purchases, diamonds can also be found in the map for higher quality purchases.

Item Shops

With these currencies, you can visit the two shops available on either side of your base. This is where you can purchase various armor sets, tools, weapons, and blocks. Each item will play a massive role in both offensive and defensive situations. Blocks will be helpful to build across to other players, however they can also be used to protect your respawn point.

Beds

In Bedwars, the most important aspect of all is the bed itself. While playing, you can respawn an infinite number of times as long as your bed is still present at your base. The moment it is destroyed, however, you will no longer be capable of respawning. While playing, your goal is to destroy the beds of other teams while simultaneously protecting your own.

Once the beds are destroyed, the last team remaining achieves victory for themselves or the group. This will reward the victors with in-game cash as well as cosmetic currency to spend in the lobby.

Notable Commands

/bw join [arena] - Join a desired arena.
/bw leave - Leave the current arena.
/bw bw autojoin - Join the first available waiting game.
/bw leaderboard - Displays the top players of the server.
/bw stats - Display your current statistics on the server.

This gamemode is a fan-favorite because of the fun and chaos that is created through defending a necessary respawn point.
