How to Train Your Dragon 3 cast

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World brings together the voice cast of the trilogy so far with several new characters. Here's a guide of everybody you'll hear in the movie and where you may recognize them from.

Starting with How To Train Your Dragon back in 2010, the trilogy has followed the friendship of Hiccup and Toothless as they brought together once mortal enemies Vikings and dragons. The second movie in the trilogy, How To Train Your Dragon 2, was released in 2014 and saw Hiccup and his clan fighting back against an evil group of dragon trappers. This concluding chapter, The Hidden World, picks up one year after the events of the sequel, with Toothless and Hiccup still rescuing captured dragons. However, their efforts have resulted in Berk becoming overpopulated, prompting Hiccup to try and find the hidden world; a safe haven for dragons that his late father had told him about. Bringing an end to the beloved trilogy, many original cast members are back for How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Here's who's voicing who.

As an end to the beloved trilogy, many original characters are back in How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World's voice cast. Here's who's playing who in the new film.

How To Train Your Dragon cast

Jay Baruchel is Hiccup: Hiccup is the main protagonist of the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. He was 15 years old in the first movie, 20 years old in the sequel, and 21 years old in The Hidden World. He is the Chief of the Berk clan. His best friend is the dragon Toothless, and together they have brought harmony to the world of dragons and Vikings. Jay Baruchel has been voicing Hiccup since 2010, for all the movies as well as the TV spinoff and videogames. Elsewhere, he's had various parts in movies or on TV, most notably playing Josh Greenberg in Man Seeking Woman.

America Ferrera is Astrid: Astrid is a female Viking warrior, and Hiccup's fiancee in The Hidden World, despite her initial animosity towards him and dragons in the first movie. She is strong and determined, keeping Hiccup on his toes. Astrid is voiced by America Ferrera, and has been since 2010 for all the How to Train Your Dragon movies, TV shows and video games. Ferrera is best known for playing Betty Suarez in the comedy TV series, Ugly Betty, from 2006-2010.

F. Murray Abraham is Grimmel: Grimmel is the villain of The Hidden World and new to the How To Train Your Dragon franchise. He's a seasoned dragon hunter and believes that all dragons should be either killed or imprisoned, and rejects the suggestion that dragons and humans can coexist peacefully. He has hunted the Night Furies species to near extinction, leaving Toothless as the last of his kind. F. Murray Abraham is a seasoned actor, with roles in Homeland, Isle of Dogs, and The Grand Budapest Hotel to his name, among many others.

Cate Blanchett is Valka: Valka is Hiccup's mother, and wife of the late Stoick the Vast. She was taken by a dragon and presumed dead, before accidentally crossing paths with Hiccup 20 years later and revealing herself as a dragon rider. Her dragon, Cloudjumper, is the same one who "abducted" her. Cate Blanchett previously voiced Valka in How to Train Your Dragon 2. She also has a wealth of other movie credits to her name, as well as multiple Oscar and Golden Globe nominations and wins.

Gerrard Butler is Stoick the Vast: Stoick is the former leader of the Hooligan tribe, and father to Hiccup. He died in How to Train Your Dragon 2, saving Hiccup from a plasma blast. His son now succeeds him as leader of the Hooligans and Chief of Bark, and Butler gets some flashback work. Gerrard Butler has voiced Stoick for all of the How to Train Your Dragon movies and TV spinoffs. He's also appeared in a wide range of movies including Gods of Egypt, London Has Fallen, and Geostorm.

Craig Ferguson is Gobber the Belch: Gobber is Stoick's gruff, crass, and hard-working friend. He may look a little rough around the edges, but he's an excellent blacksmith, teacher, and parent figure to Hiccup. Like many others in the cast, Craig Ferguson has voiced his character since the start of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. He's also appeared in Web Therapy and Hot in Cleveland, and has many writing credits to his name.

Jonah Hill is Snotlout Jorgenson: Snotlout is small in stature, but he believes himself to be every inch the hero, which results in him being quite smug. Jonah Hill has been the voice of Snotlout throughout the franchise, and is currently in cinemas as the voice of Green Lantern in The LEGO Movie 2. He's a comedy mainstay, appearing in Superbad and Jump Street, as well as more serious fare like Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Fishlegs Ingerman: Fishlegs is one of Hiccup's best friends. He's exceptionally knowledgeable about dragons and is kind and considerate. As well as being the voice of Fishlegs, Christopher Mintz-Plasse appeared in a lot of similar comedies to Hill, including Superbad, as well as Role Models and Kick-Ass.

Kristen Wiig is Ruffnut Thorston: Ruffnut and her twin, Tuffnut, are renowned rule breakers and lovers of all things dangerous. The last single lady in Berk, she is the object of Fishlegs and Snotlout's affections, but she has no interest in them. Kristen Wiig is a renowned comedy actress, appearing in Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, Wet Hot American Summer, among others, and will be seen next year in Wonder Woman 1984.

Justin Rupple is Tuffnut Thorston: Ruffnut's twin, the pair of them are constantly fighting and bickering. He is fearless and always up for some rule breaking. Tuffnut is voiced by Justin Rupple, who has also done voiceover work for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Kit Harrington is Eret: Eret was a dragon trapper in How to Train Your Dragon 2, before seeing the error of his ways and is now loyal to the Vikings and is one of Hiccup's closest advisers. Kit Harrington has voiced Eret for both movie's he's appeared in and is, of course, best known for his work on Game of Thrones.

David Tennant is Spitelout and Ivar the Witless: Spitelout is the father of Snotlout, and takes great pride in his son. He also puts great pressure on him to become a great Viking. Ivor the Witless is a dragon trapper who works for the warlords. Both characters are voiced by David Tennant, known for multiple roles including playing the tenth Doctor in Doctor Who. He also voices Scrooge McDuck in DuckTales and played the evil Killgrave in Jessica Jones on Netflix.

Why did Tuffnut voice change?

Actor T.J. Miller voiced the role of Tuffnut in the first two "How to Train Your Dragon" movies. The role was recast for the third movie following reports of a sexual assault allegation against Miller and his arrest on charges of calling in a fake bomb threat.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures, it is the sequel to How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) and the third and final installment in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
