Reggie Bird has won Big Brother 2022 and taken out the $250,000 prize. Describing herself as a “down to earth Aussie battler,” she becomes the only person to win the Australian series twice, having spent a total of 148 days in the house. Reggie defeated Super Fan Johnson Ashak and Challenge Beast Taras Hrubyj-Piper in a Live finale at the Hordern Pavilion -the first full house Seven has been able to stage due to the pandemic. “I can’t believe this. Thank you to everyone who voted for me,” she said. Joined onstage by her kids Mia and Lucas, the mother of two said: “I’m gonna use that money to put a roof over our heads.” But the night was not without some controversy with Josh Goudswaard giving a disingenuous reply to a question from host Sonia Kruger about hooking up with former flame, Sam, in the house. “Y’all approached me to make some great TV. I did that. But I said ‘Not unless you put her in there.’ And actually I was looking after my friend dying of cancer. I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this show. Aren’t all these Big Brother has beens, has beens?’ Evidently not!” Reggie’s win wraps up a sentimental season for the show’s 21st birthday, produced by Endemol Shine Australia. This post updates. Tendarb says: July 16, 2022 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm I enjoyed this season (except for the Survivor challenges). It was a great mix of housemates and nostalgic seeing the OGs back, oh and seeing Reggie make history! I hope they bring it back in its original form though. Congratulations Reggie, you earned it! Log in to Reply Dayman says: July 13, 2022 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm I hope it’s back, but they really need to make it more like the TEN or Nine format. Make it live, focus more on life in the house. Not just competitions and nominations. Loved that even though she never had a hope in hell of winning those ridiculous challenges she kept fronting up and having a go without complaining or asking for special treatment. The producers really need to re think how much emphasis they place on those challenges, maybe ditch it all together, as it gets boring real quick with the same able bodied sporty types winning repeatedly. Would much rather more time was spent showing us the housemates personalities and how they interact. I guess this comes down to cost though. Rather than have to employ producers to monitor the housemates for 24 hours for story lines and assemble packages of interesting and funny things they do, all they have to do is run a 2 hour sporting event each day and assemble highlights from that to make the show. Well done Reggie for proving viewers don’t give a crap how good you are at sports. Log in to Reply
Jude says: July 13, 2022 12:44 pm at 12:44 pm Poor Taras was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He was going to lose if he evicted Reggie because she was so well liked and he lost because he kept her. Very happy for Reggie. Guess I won’t be seeing her on the humble bus for awhile lol Log in to Reply AEDDIE says: July 13, 2022 11:56 am at 11:56 am Very happy that Reggie won (even though I voted for Taras). Well deserved. Log in to Reply Shiraz says: July 13, 2022 11:29 am at 11:29 am Like most i’m also very happy Reggie won and wish her all the best for the future. I know a lot of people don’t like the new format, but i’m someone who does and watched all episodes. However, I think they made a mistake mixing previous and new housemates. It created two issues, the first was the divide between the two groups and the second was it exposed how uninteresting most of the new participants were compared to the returning housemates. To be fair, the new housemates were up against some of the most interesting housemates from the past. Casting seems to be heavily focused on being young, outgoing and attractive and I think that often comes at the expense of interesting personalities. Casting has become very ‘cookie cutter’. When you look at the returning housemates, how interesting is it observing people like Trevor, Tim and Reggie, all past winners. I’d like to see more people like them on the show. I’d also suggest make it either all new housemates, or all… Log in to Reply
Guy says: July 13, 2022 10:13 am at 10:13 am What a win!!! so happy for Reggie. She was my favourite from the start and so glad she took it out in the end. It was a much better season than VIP but what i will say is i wish it was OG only. It will be interesting to see if it comes back. I hope it does and they make a few changes too. Like better games etc. Seven could really take a leaf out of BBCanada with that. Some of the games they play are much easier than these physical challenges which need to be rid of for the most part. Change nomination talk too. Bring back the old rules for a season. Thats what i wish they did this year but we will see…I would love live streams and uncut to return too next year but i don’t see it happening. Log in to Reply carolemorrissey says: July 13, 2022 7:37 am at 7:37 am So happy to see Reggis win. Don’t normally bother to vote in these things but I did vote for Reggie. I laughed when she said people come up to her in supermarkets. I saw her in Coles the other week & talked to her. She is lovely. I would have liked to have seen the friction between Estelle & Taras addressed & how many people he lied to. So glad he didn’t win. Sonia seemed a bit wooden at the start but then loosened up a bit after the second segment IMO. Weird that Brenton didn’t even get one question asked to him considering he just missed coming first on that last challenge and being final three. Glad Reggie won.. it still baffles me that housemates took her to the end to begin with. Oh and that response from Josh.. and Dave saying him and Reggie are from Channel Ten day… gotta love live telly… Log in to Reply nickp says: July 13, 2022 12:25 am at 12:25 am Some stats: Reggie is only the 5th person across the BB franchise to win twice Reggie has the largest gap between appearances (and also wins) of any BB contestant, with a 19 year gap between her first and second season Log in to Reply tvaddict says: July 12, 2022 10:39 pm at 10:39 pm Congrats Reggie, Australia’s favourite lil Aussie battler, deserved not just for that but for being a really genuinely lovely person who played an honest game.
